Raidal ProD2 at a Glance: Full range passive direct box Custom isolation transformer eliminates noise Really easy to use Built like a tank Passive vs. Active DI The Radial ProD2 and ProDI (mono version) are full range passive direct boxes. Active direct boxes employ electronic circuits to change the impedance from hi-Z to lo-Z and balance the signal. Passive DI's employ a simple passive transformer to do the work. Active DI's require batteries, 48V phantom-power or external power supplies to power their circuits. Passive transformer-equipped direct boxes do not require any power to perform their task. The advantage of a transformer over typical active circuits can be summarized as "a

Review: This thing is a Tank. - I have to say, this DI box is an absolute powerhouse. It's built like a tank and can withstand just about anything you throw at it. Whether it's being jostled around in a gig bag or dropped on the floor, this DI box just keeps on working. What's even better is that everything about this DI box just works. The sound quality is fantastic and it does exactly what it's supposed to do - take an unbalanced, high-impedance signal and convert it to a balanced, low-impedance signal. I've used it for everything from recording to live gigs, and it's always performed flawlessly. But what really sets this DI box apart is its durability. It's probably the best in the industry, and I've seen firsthand just how tough it can be. It's been dropped, and stepped on, but it still keeps on working like a champ. Overall, if you're in need of a DI box that's incredibly durable and reliable, this is definitely the one to go for. It's built to last, sounds great, and just does what it's supposed to do. Highly recommended!
Review: Solid product! - Expensive compared to other DI's but worth it. Noise level is low. The thing is built like a tank. I feel at ease when I use radials because of their track record.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I have a gibson ed335 and when i run it into my fender deluxe amp i always hear a hum. is it customary to run this between a guitar and an amp all th**
A: Did you mean es335? That Gibson has humbucking pickups so shouldn’t be very hummy.
It’s customary to run a bass though a DI that way, but not guitars unless you are using pedals only to create your tone. If you rely on your amp and speaker for your sound it would be better for the sound person to put a microphone in front of your speaker. Try comparing your amp to another at the same location to see if the hum is as loud. Fluorescent and neon lights an motors can radiate hum which can be picked up by a bad cable or a problem inside your amp or guitar.
The main purpose of a direct box is to convert a single-ended high impedance signal to balanced line low impedance that can be sent over long distances, cancelling hum that is picked up in the cable going to the mixer. If there’s hum before the DI there will be hum after it.

**Q: I got a general question. If I am getting a direct box... does it matter if the cables are balanced or unbalanced?**
A: Most DI boxes convert an unbalanced high impedance signal to a low impedance balanced signal. So, you can use unbalanced in and balanced out. A balanced cable has more noise rejection and is better for longer cable runs. The Radial ProD2 takes 2 unbalanced 1/4 inch TS connectors in and converts then to 2 XLR balanced outputs.

**Q: Looking to pass a stereo out from MacBook pro, through a volume pedal, to the di, and out stereo to the board. I play live through logic + mainstage.**
A: Hello Brandyn,If you are using an audio interface with the MacBook Pro, the ProD2 would be perfect. If you are using the built-in sound card of the MacBook Pro, you will want something like the Radial StageBug SB-5 Sidewinder Laptop DI (as it is outfitted with a stereo 3.5mm connector, so you don't need any adapter). The Pro D2 will work with a laptop's built-in card, but will require (1/4" to 1/8") adapters - which is not recommended (minimal "patch points" is always the best route). Let us know if we can help with anything else. We at Front End Audio are happy to do what we can.Thank you!

**Q: I require 5 Passive stereo DI boxes - From 8 bucks to 300 bucks? Is there a reasonable quality and reasonable price you would reccomend for me ie a stereo Yamaha S90 Keyboard? I have one ProD2**
A: I would actually recommend the Radial Pro D2. It's the most reliable DI box we sell. If your using it for the Yamaha S90, you really don't want to buy anything cheaper. Thanks.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Church Sound System - NO BUZZ / HUM... quiet as a church mouse :)
*by A***L on May 2, 2018*

Our church recently remodeled, and replaced our acoustic drums with electric drums. The size of our sanctuary just couldn't handle acoustic very well (too small/loud). The problem was, once we hooked up the electric drums we had an issue where they would periodically "clip" (pop in the speakers) when hit harder. This didn't seem to be a consistent repeatable thing, it just kept happening consistently-random. To avoid this, we had to pull the drum kit volume down to 3 or less (Default is 13). Additionally, there was this TERRIBLE BUZZ in the speakers. NO matter what volume level you put the drum kit on, the buzz was still there (Same level). When we pulled the drum volume down on the mixing board, we could reduce the volume of the buzz, but not eliminate it altogether, and then, all the other instruments/vocals were overpowering the drums. So i did some research and concluded that we must be experiencing a "Ground Loop". After reading reviews on this product, i though i would give it a try. I installed this between the drum kit and the snake. When i powered on the sound system, i was shocked that there was NO SOUND. No buzz, no hum, no noise of any kind. it didn't even sound like i had turned anything on. Our sound system has NEVER been that quiet, even before the remodel. My first thought was "Man, this thing isn't working, now i have NO sound". As i walked toward the box to start trouble shooting, it occurred to me that i should at least TEST the drums first. Guess what, they WORKED. The box was just THAT GOOD. Praise God. Additionally, this also seemed to fix the Popping / Clipping volume issue we had previously as i can now put the drums back on the default volume level of 13 with no issues.
