DIY How To Below. *by C***C on Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2020* This is a nice, well made quality light. First about the product. The bulb is completely sealed in a well. I'm pretty sure they poured hot silicone into it and then let it cool so the whole unit is sealed. Think, mosquito in amber from Jurassic Park movie, lol! So you don't have to worry about water getting to the bulb. Light output is equivalent to an old-style incandescent night light or like a step light in the movie theaters. (Remember it's only .1 watt, and is warm white.)Install: In the past I've had issues with connections. This time I soldered all my connections and then put them into the gel filled wiring nuts/caps. I also made sure that the open side of the cap where the wires go in, was facing down so the water can't climb up into it. Little things make a big difference! The bulb is an LED, so if it goes out prematurely, you may have an under/over voltage issue. (Make sure your landscape transformer is for low voltage AND DC output, not AC.) Two negatives, or at least shortcomings that you should be aware of. First, you can use the unit as a template to drill the screw holes, but you will need to add a center hole to route the wires through, depending upon your installation which isn't stated in the directions. But unless you have a channel of some type and want this units backside to be flush against the surface, you will need to drill an additional hole to pass the wires through. (Even though the unit is sealed, I always try use best practices, so I drilled the wiring holes on a slight downward angle through wood, so the water can't climb into the unit from the backside.) This leads me to the second shortcoming (no pun intended, heh-heh) but the pigtail is only about 5" inches long. This will probably be enough for most situations, but for me these units are mounted on 4x4 fence posts, so when they exit the back, I only have about 1.5-2.0" inches to make my connections, which was very challenging.
