10/10.... A no-brainer. Try them once. Worth every penny.
It took me years to try a set of these, honestly because they are a few dollars more. I began playing banjo many years ago, and have purchased probably every variety, gauge, and composition I have had the chance to... and these indeed, live up to their claims. the primary attraction (for me) of these is the feel on the fretboard. the medium gauge have the feel of somewhat lighter gauge strings...but indeed are the same spec-wise (thickness) as most typical medium gauge strings. with this said, the sound is not compromised but either equal or better than any brand i've ever tried. amazon seems to be the best deal i've found online. oddly, the money you will save just by not having to change them nearly as often is an absolute no-brainer. ive purchased about 15 or so of these sets with constant playing. the longest i have left a set on is 4 months, and my banjo, for the first time ever, actually did not sound noticeably brighter with the new set of the same strings, where usually i'm delighted and excited with the sound after a string change. pretty amazing engineering. if you are an occasional player, these are again, a home run, as they will not deteriorate in your banjo's down time. i have always carried a small cloth to wipe my strings. you will notice these are much smoother when you wipe them.they feel smooth, make the action feel smooth, sound (in my opinion) better than any string made, and seem to last nearly forever.

Excellent strings
First, you have to understand that I’m really spoiled ok? I have four great banjos. Each one is a little different so I the latitude to match strings head to head and see how they stack up. These strings sound uniformly good on each of my banjos. I do think that when you get used to listening to dead strings, that is the sounds you expect and these can sound a little ringy in contrast. Be aware that almost all the old recordings are banjos with dead strings. Back in the day, you changed a string when it broke, one at a time and not before. You best bet is to have someone with a good ear stand out front and really listen to your banjo. There are at least four or maybe five other things that affect banjo tone. Some of them are quite adjustable by the player. If you are a player starting out you almost always will be better off with light strings. Until you build strength in your fingers, and caluses on your fretting fingers, you will be happier with light slick strings, and the coated ones, like the Elixir are less likely to tear up your fingers.Humidity is a killer. Had one of my banjos in Japan for seven years. Strings did not last as long as they do in the Rocky Mountain west.

Arrived scary fast. Makes a sandwich by Jimmy seem slow. ;)
I'm a beginner. Wanted to try medium strings instead of the light ones that shipped with my banjo. Certainly like the tone better, and they differences were as I read they would be in a book. I'm working on bluegrass, not claw-hammer. As a result of being such a novice, I do not have much more to say about the strings, as I can hardly tell them apart from a hobo's beard hair at the moment. ;) Anyhow...I can say I was very surprised when they showed up NEXT DAY. I am a prime member, worth it by the way. BUT....I ordered them late on SUNDAY morning and they were in my mailbox MONDAY afternoon. Hardly 24 hours. Now, it is a small uniform sized item, shipped in a padded soft envelope that fit in a standard grouped small letter mailbox. As a result, processing was likely very automated. I'm a mechanical engineer myself, and if my assumption of automation is correct, I think that the logistics folks and automation engineers at Amazon need a good pat on the back for this one!!! That is some crazy fast service!!!

Good But Not Great
First of all, I love Elixir strings for my guitar. They last so much longer than regular guitar strings. However, as banjo strings, the coating used to give longer life seems to effect the sound of the strings, most notably the fourth string. I normally change my banjo strings every two to three weeks. It's not the most enjoyable part of playing, but certainly a necessity, So, given my like for their guitar strings, I thought I would give them a shot for the banjo so I could hopefully go longer without having to change strings. I did get the extra time but I also sacrificed sound. Now four weeks later the strings themselves feel like they did when I first put them on. My fingers love them but after a few weeks of use my ears don't. Now if the cost were the same as my usual GHS- J.D. Crowe Studio, I would keep purchasing these. However, for the price of one set of Elixir strings I can purchase three sets of GHS- J.D. Crowe Studio banjo strings.

Worth the Price!
The polyweb coating on these strings really is nice, and keeps them playing clear longer. Plus, they are easier to clean! No negative impact upon sound, for those of you that are concerned.

the best strings available
When a friend first suggested Elixir strings for my guitar several years ago, I balked. They cost two or three times what I was used to paying, but he talked me into it. I've never looked back. They sound better, last longer, are more playable and resist rust far better than any other strings I've used, and I used to go through a set or two a month in my club playing days. I wish these had existed then, because I would have probably saved money in the long run. When I decided to pick up my five-string again after years of neglect, I went directly to Elixir, and I love these strings. I'm thinking of treating my mandolin to a set next. They're well worth the price. RW The Tao Of Writing: Imagine. Create. Flow.

Good, clear tone and
I have used the Elixir guitar strings for over 4 years now and though time to try on my banjo.I don't play banjo too often therefore the strings don't get changed that frequently. I have played a little after fitting these strings and seem just right. Good, clear tone and, hopefully, the longevity as shown by the guitar strings.
