Excellent and as advertised. 12 leads (6 pairs) with crimped & soldered alligator clips, 36" long. January 2014
There is not much more to say other than these are a fine and affordable set of test leads. They are longer than you probably need at 3 feet each. They are color coded, the wires are soldered to the alligator clip, and that is combined with a crimped strain refief. A LARGE alligator clip is used (about the length of a large paper clip but fatter). I can't, as an electrical engineer, imagine who would want more from such a simple product.PS: wire gauge (aka wire size/diameter) is in the range of 20. That is an educated guess. Far too many reviews have concentrated on this minor topic! FYI: A larger gauge number denotes a SMALLER physical diameter of wire. However at three feet in length, even a small diameter wire (larger gauge number) is perfect for 99% of all testing situations. While you don't want resistance in a test lead - resistance is calcuated by the diameter of the wire (a bigger diameter being better) times length (shorter lengths being better). Given the short length of these leads they are fine, typical of what has always been used in test leads for decades, and appropriate for most applications.Who might NOT want these test leads? While this list is hardly complete, no one should use these test leads going to a starter motor on a car for example, which draws massive amounts of current. I'm sure electricans can come up with other very heavy ampere (current) situations that would need a larger diameter wire too but in most "normal" situations these test leads are fine and most users should not worry about the wire gauge/wire diameter.Confusion: Apparently some people have received shorter lengths of cables and also inferior ones. I suspect these were NOT Elenco cables. I'd simply recommend to these people - if you are sure you ordered Elenco cables but did not receive them - well - return them at the sellers expense. The part number on my bag of cables is TL-6LG and says "Elenco Electronics, Inc". If you don't get what you ordered make Amazon take them back and also pay for return shipping, etc. Amazon is very good about that

Elenco Electronics TL-6LG Large Alligator to Large Alligator Test Lead Set
I have found this set of test leads to be very decent for the price. They have come in handy for bench work and also for things like jumpering thermostat terminals and making other temporary control wiring connections. The test leads are 36" long overall and made from five different colors of 20AWG stranded copper wire with insulation rated for 600V at 105Β°C. The color matched insulated alligator clips will open to approximately 5/16" max and are nickel plated with soldered connections and a crimped metal strain relief. They have nice strong springs with teeth sharp enough to make good low resistance connections and firmly grip bare wiring and screw terminals. There was no indication on the actual packaging as to where they were made, so I will just have to assume it is China. I also don't see any UL or other ETL listing anywhere on them, but then I didn't really expect there to be at this price, so not an issue for me. Overall, these test leads have worked well for everything I have needed them to do so far and seem to be of good quality, especially when considering that they were less than ten dollars for a set of ten here on Amazon.

Buyer beware
I bought the 36" long large alligator test lead set made by Elenco and sold by Kringles Toys through Amazon. The wires were as described on the Amazon page. The wires were soldered to the large alligator clips and the copper wire was large enough to carry a fair amount of current. I was extremely pleased with the wires, so I decided to order a couple of more sets. When I went to reorder a couple of days after I received the original wires the price had gone up 25% and were now sold by a different company through Amazon. On the Amazon page the exact same Elenco wires were listed as available from a third party as well with free shipping and about the same price as the original ones I ordered. Since the wires were listed as made by Elenco and were supposed to be the exact same ones I had originally bought, I went ahead and ordered them through the third party. I am extremelly disappointed with the new wires. The alligator clips are much smaller than the original ones. The copper wire is less than half the size of the wire in the original wires. The alligator clips are NOT soldered to the wires. The wires are only 22" long instead of 36" long as described. Depending upon the company you get the wires from you may be extremely pleased as I was with the first order or extremely disappointed as I was with the second order.

If you need a low cost HD type of jumper set, this is it!
These are very good quality for such a low price! These are a "Full Size UP" type of jumper clips. Normally you have the small alligator clips that are very light duty and light weight. These are a much larger clip and may be a tad bit larger than some may want. I like them and gave them 5 stars for the real quality in this product and the clear, clean function, with high quality wire too! They do NOT say made in China on them either. Each lead is about 24 inches long and the set I have came in R, G, W, Bk, & yellow: 2 of each color in the set. The print on the wire is so small that I am having trouble reading it, but I think it is #16, 600VAC rated @ 105*C. That would correspond to our MTW extra flex type wiring: a little bit stiff, but very high quality! If the larger more capable clip and wire size is what you need, you will absolutely be glad you bought these! You cannot buy the parts and make your own for less money. Enjoy!

Very Useful Test Leads
I decided to replace my old test leads; useful in testing electronic project circuits

go ahead hook it up & test it without worries
nice clips on these leads and are not the cheap ones that are weak only draw back of the protection rubber cover on the end makes it so you cant open the clip up to its full capacity so i just pull it back to clip it on a bigger post then slide it back down till it touches the length on them are perfect for what i use them for and the variety of colors make it easy to see and remember what wire was the hot one

but they don't fall off easy so thats good
Its a pain in the but to get the sleeve back on if they fall off, but they don't fall off easy so thats good. Work well. I am doing experiments above an 800C furnace (mostly insulated) but some of them burn and they others don't, even though they are right next to each other.

Bigger than expected
I wanted to use these to connect parts of electronic circuits together and to attack to test points, but they're a bit on the large side for that. Otherwise good quality.

but these ones are excellent, flexible and ends are soldered
35 years in electronics usually made my own alligator clips, which always seemed to go walk about away from my bench , and when I would splurge and buy ready made the one thing that always bugged me was that they were not soldered. The had the ends barred and a piece of metal crimped around the end which pinched the wire and then that was crimped into the alligator clip, so now you have two spots to work loose and cause intermittent or high resistance, so with commercial units its first thing I would always do was take them apart and solder , but these ones are excellent, flexible and ends are soldered.

Good Quality
The wires were soldered to the clips, which I liked - saving me the trouble. Good quality. So far I have only used them to transfer a charge and wake up a completely dead tool battery from a good battery, so my charger would recognize it.

Price and quality happy!
Always looking for test leads? I was. Was trying to test my 12V relay and struggled without leads. So, bought these after much searching. Happy with my purchase. Probably more than I need but the price is good and the quality is very good.

Since there is no more radio shack in Canada anymore ...
Since there is no more radio shack in Canada anymore its been hard to get decent equipment when you work with electronics on a day to day, im grateful to be able to have these in my toolbox because ive been looking for months for these. Thanks guys :)
