Get some model clippers and some super glue pre-fit before gluing them together. Besides the included factions of what he bought, forces of Chaos, armies of Xenos, and other armies of the imperium can be bought with many flavors in each category (Orks is best). Playing in a local store may require ownership of core rules and/or codex for the faction that he's playing. Games Workshop has found the magic price point with the best balance between quality and price that both longtime and new players are willing to pay. Basically, they kept raising their prices to the point that over half of their base wouldn't buy them, then lowered it a bit. Ridiculous you say? Overpriced and a rip off? Well, yes, it is. GW has about 25 cents invested in each mini and thats being generous. They're made in China so they're quite literally as cheap as possible. But it's warhammer, and vets of the game have just come to accept that this is part of the addiction. We pay $200+ for $5 worth of plastic, spend weeks assembling and painting them while complaining about the price. Then we do it again. Why do we continue? I have no idea, probably for the same reasons a drug addict keeps returning to their dealer.
