Or do you have to cycle/activate it periodically?** A: It constantly measures the temperature. **Q: Can the thermometer tip remain immersed in hot cooking oil? Seems designed to, with clip, but a recent question remarks the directions say otherwise.** A: I don’t know … the directions say “ do not leave the thermometer inserted in food during cooking “ ….this may mean in meats in the oven since it does come with a pot clip . Directions also say “ do not leave exposed to extreme high or low temperatures, since this will damage electronic parts and plastic.” To me it sounds like it’s ok to clip to a pot for cooking candy but not to leave it in an oven if testing meat temp. The directions are very confusing but since it comes with a pot clip I think it’s ok to immerse in hot candy . Maybe need to ask the seller **Q: Is this leave in candy temperature gauge accurate, durable and does it have a protective sleeve to store it in when not in use?** A: I use mine for making maple syrup which requires pretty specific temps. I always check boiling point of water before each use or if I bump it a lot. Any difference from 212 I use as correction factor. I store mine in the box it came in. No sleeve or cover comes with but a short piece of soft tubing from hardware store would do fine. I like this thermometer and will buy again in future **Q: Does the probe hang close to the edge of the pot or can you angle the probe toward the center of the pot? I am not referring to the pivoting display** A: Similar to other thermometers, there is a clip that attaches to the side of the pot. The sensor is suspended approximately a quarter inch from the edge of the pot. A definite recommendation! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Accurate, Easy to Use and Clean *by 2***D on November 28, 2025* This thermometer worked perfectly for checking the temperature of a turkey while deep frying. The display is easy to switch between degrees F & C, the metal probe is 8” long and the thermometer comes with an AAA battery- no button batteries. But the most important thing for me was to check the temperature accuracy. Before using the thermometer, I checked what it read when the probe was resting in a kettle of boiling water. Water boils at 100 degrees C. The thermometer read 100.5 C, but the tip of the metal probe was resting on the bottom of the kettle, so I figure that’s where the extra 0.5 C came from. Good enough. When the deepest part of the turkey breast and thigh read at or above 165 degrees F, I pulled the turkey out of the oil and we found the turkey to be cooked perfectly at dinner time. I would highly recommend this thermometer because it’s accurate, easy to use, easy to change the battery (battery door has a sturdy locking tab so no tiny screwdriver is necessary), easy the clean the probe.
