Review: Good scope, but not a good first scope - I've been doing astrophotography for 4 years. Glad I got this SkyMax 150 now, not first. SkyMax 150 is slow, highly powerful, and difficult to use compared to other scopes. But it's great for lucky imaging, and has higher contrast than refractor scopes. Took this shot of the Moon night one. It's 6 close up shots stitched together, lucky imaging, shooting 3000 frames, Exposure per frame: 0.33 ms, FPS: 55, with Player One Uranus-M camera. Stacked 210 frames. Closer up Moon pix were taken with SkyMax 150 and a Baader 2x VIP Barlow, so 3600mm. ## Features - EXPERTLY MATCHED OPTICS: The Skymax series of Maksutov-Cassegrain optical tubes features matched primary and secondary mirrors with an expertly coated corrector plate that delivers contrast-rich views with charcoal-black skies. - 94% REFLECTIVITY MIRROR COATINGS: Using a borosilicate primary mirror with an aluminum coating and a quartz overcoat, Sky-Watcher Maksutov-Cassegrains produce a 94% reflectivity rating for outstanding light transmission. - VIXEN-STYLE DOVETAIL: An industry standard, the Vixen-style dovetail is the most commonly used dovetail bar for astronomy. - FULLY BAFFLED TUBE: Utilizing a fully-baffled tube, Sky-Watcher Maksutovs prevent stray light from interfering with your viewing experience. - EVERYTHING YOU NEED: The 150mm Skymax Maksutov-Cassegrain comes equipped with everything you need to get started, including: : a 28mm 2-inch eyepiece, 2-inch 90-degree star diagonal, and a 9x50 straight-through finderscope. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B00Z4HX18M | | Additional Features | Expertly Matched Optics, 94% Reflectivity Mirror Coatings, Vixen-Style Dovetail, Fully Baffled Tube, Professional-Grade Optics, Exceptionally Long Focal Lengths, Excellent for Astrophotography | | Best Sellers Rank | #6,223 in Electronics ( See Top 100 in Electronics ) #1 in Telescope Reflectors | | Brand | Sky-Watcher | | Built-In Media | Diagonal, Eyepeice, Finder | | Coating | Fully multi-coated | | Compatible Devices | Vixen-style dovetail mount compatible devices | | Country of Origin | China | | Customer Reviews | 4.6 out of 5 stars 25 Reviews | | Exit Pupil Diameter | 1.25 Millimeters | | Eye Piece Lens Description | Barlow | | Eye piece lens description | Barlow | | Finderscope | Straight-Through | | Focal Length Description | 1800 millimeters | | Focus Type | Manual Focus | | Global Trade Identification Number | 00050234115308, 05023411530800 | | Item Dimensions D x W x H | 63.5D x 25.4W x 25.4H centimeters | | Item Weight | 7.26 kg | | Manufacturer | Sky-Watcher | | Manufacturer Part Number | S11530 | | Model Name | Sky-Watcher Maksutov-Cassegrain 150mm | | Model Number | S11530 | | Model name | Sky-Watcher Maksutov-Cassegrain 150mm | | Mount | Equatorial Mount | | Number of Items | 1 | | Number of Packs | 1 | | Objective Lens Diameter | 150 Millimeters | | Objective lens diameter | 150 Millimeters | | Optical tube length | 70 Millimeters | | Optical-Tube Length | 70 Millimeters | | Power Source | Manual Operation | | Telescope mount description | Equatorial Mount | | UPC | 050234115308 | | Unit Count | 1 Count | | Zoom Ratio | 700 | ## Product Details - **Brand:** Sky-Watcher - **Eye piece lens description:** Barlow - **Model name:** Sky-Watcher Maksutov-Cassegrain 150mm - **Objective lens diameter:** 150 Millimeters - **Optical tube length:** 70 Millimeters ## Images ![Skywatcher Skymax 150mm Maksutov-Cassegrain - Large Aperture Compound-Style Reflector Telescope - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51RboBuDxtL.jpg) ## Available Options This product comes in different **Style** options. ## Questions & Answers **Q: Se pueden ver galaxias, nebulosas etc?** A: You can see galaxies and nebulae with the 102, although there won't be a lot of detail. Maksutov-Cassegrains of this aperture are suited better to planetary and lunar viewing. For what you're asking about, larger apertures (150mm, for example) would be better. **Q: I'm extremely new to everything astronomy, but if i were to get this telescope, what additional items would i need for astrophotography?** A: If astrophotography is your main goal a Maksutov telescope such as this would not be the best choice unless your interest is moon. Please contact our support department at 310-803-5966. They will be able to assist you with finding the best arrangement. **Q: The add says both the item and shipping weight are the same- 23 pounds. What is the actual weight of the tube (i.e. requred mount capacity)? Thanks!** A: If anyone is still wondering, I just weighed mine (180mm) and the OTA alone (without finderscope or eyepiece and diagonal) is 17 pounds. **Q: Photo shows side of ota says schotts optical glass. does this scope purchased thru amazon have this logo on the ota?** A: No, mine does not say schotte optical glass. It still performs nicely, but I was very angry when I realized this is a bait n switch product ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good scope, but not a good first scope *by M***S on 13 September 2026* I've been doing astrophotography for 4 years. ## Frequently Bought Together - Sky-Watcher Skymax 150mm Maksutov-Cassegrain - Large Aperture Compound-Style Reflector Telescope - Celestron – Zoom Eyepiece for Telescope – Versatile 8mm-24mm Zoom for Low Power and High Power Viewing – Works with Any Telescope That Accepts 1.25" Eyepieces --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.pt/products/390853577-skywatcher-skymax-150mm-maksutov-cassegrain-large-aperture-compound-style-reflector](https://www.desertcart.pt/products/390853577-skywatcher-skymax-150mm-maksutov-cassegrain-large-aperture-compound-style-reflector) --- *Product available on Desertcart Portugal* *Store origin: PT* *Last updated: 2026-10-19*
