We tried them on our Purple Martin houses and they didn't work for owl. I guess owls know that predators aren't up on the bird houses. Really don't know if they work for mountain lions, fox, coyotes, etc. **Q: What about bears?????** A: Bears are rarely seen here in the farmlands, but I suspect they wouldn't be deterred. They are more likely after your trash than a garden. It might be worth a try though. **Q: Does it work daytime too?** A: The device is "on" in the daytime but I wouldn't imagine that it would be effective for deterring animals as they could visually see that it isn't a predator. **Q: Does it scare stray/ ferral cats?** A: the short answer is "No". We got this to keep a skunk from bothering our chickens. They are placed on the East side of the building and get only a few hours of direct sunlight. It continues to function but the plastic lens over the solar panel is no longer clear. It's turned almost white and is not allowing the battery to fully charge anymore.
