With a few clever adaptations of publicly available program code, my prototype has the features I want at much lower cost. I tested it against two commercial units from different manufacturers that are used in hospitals, the kind where the sensor that wraps on your finger and cost $125 each. My DIY unit using this sensor was within 1% of both commercial units.
