They are rather "high" and that took some getting used to but after a few days we are both enjoying them a lot. Latex is very different from memory foam; it compresses under your head but springs right back when you lift up. These firm pillows do not flatten under the weight of your head; they keep your head several inches above the mattress. If you want a somewhat softer pillow you may wish to consider the medium version. Contrary to what others have reported, there was no smell that we noticed when we first unwrapped them.You may wish to see if the pillow is available on Overstocks.com. Ours was direct-shipped from there which means that the merchant shown on Amazon is a fake.
