Luciano hatte ich bisher mehr am Rande wahrgenommen. vor Jahren mal beim Reggae Summer Jam in Köln Live gesehen. Da hat er ein durchweg überzeugendes Set abgeliefert. Der erste Hit von Luciano, der mich begeisterte war One Way Ticket aus 93/94. Im Rahmen meiner Reggae Sammlungs Erweiterung war klar, dass auch was von Luciano geordert werden sollte und was soll ich sagen ?The Quaballah Man hat mich sofort begeistert. Das ist eine CD, die es in der Art eigentlich gar nicht mehr gibt. Ein echtes Album, dass sofort in's Ohr und in die Beine geht und mit jedem weiteren Hören mehr beeindruckt. So wie z:b. die Platten von Dennis Brown, Black Uhuru oder Burning Spear in den 70ern/80ern.Statements für die Ewigkeit, Musik, die mein Leben enorm bereichert hat. Luciano hat hier große Songs geschrieben mit tollen Texten und abwechslungsreichen Melodien und knackigen, fetten Rhythmen. Al Ta Fa An senior hat ein Händchen für Arrangements, dazu die gelungene Auswahl an Gästen, ohne das Album dadurch zu einer Ansammlung von Hit Tunes zu reduzieren. Es fliesst und hat ein Konzept, dass auf den Punkt wirkt. Die Stimme erinnert mich oft voll an Emmanuel Brown , die Bläser setzen dazu die Akzente, die Band grooved und die Back Up Sänger passen ebenso wie die Mischung der 13 hier versammelten Songss, plus einem Dub.Für mich DAS album des jahres !
