I find the cream colour one a bit harsh to the touch. This is my own opinion. **Q: An I use a 3 inch backing plate in this machine** A: This kit comes with a 5 inch and a 6 inch backing plate. The backing plates screw onto the output shaft. The output shaft protrudes slightly from a plastic protective cover. A 3 inch backing plate would fit but it would be smaller than the protective cover. Therefore the advantage of a smaller backing plate ie getting into smaller areas would be lost due to the larger protective cover.
