Grow Young with HGH: The Amazing Medically Proven Plan to Reverse Aging

A great bargain and an early popular work that may save many lives
I bought this book for $1.00 at Goodwill several years ago. I am sure the research is now dated, but this is the book I have read most often and most thoroughly several times over in the last few years. {I am an avid reader and Kindle junkie; I have read several hundred books since). The pages of Katz's are full of my notes, the blank pages at the back are filled with progress notes. I read critically: some of Katz's research is poorly reported; one supplement he recommends is now illegal (as a schedule 2 date rape drug). Don't reject or disregard the central premise or the entire book because of this. The book made me realize I have been taking a prescribed medication that causes or supports the release of HGH for the last 14 years. It is a common medication prescribed for another purpose that I won't identify here- I have no objective proof that it works. I just believe it does from experience, and this is consistent with Katz's comments about dopamine metabolism. The medication is closely controlled and can only be taken under ongoing medical supervision. I am not recommending it for HGH, just noting my personal experience. It is one substance that produces the effect Dr. Katz described and when taken daily over time it appeared to work for me. There are probably over-the-counter amino acid supplements as recommended by Dr. Katz that would have the same or greater effect on HGH release- over time.I will turn 63 in June, I look about the same age I did when I began the medication in 2000 (my hair may be a little grayer, but it is also visibly thicker). Friends of my age look older than I (believe) I do, and seem to have more health problems and less energy. This Spring when I started running I was surprised that I returned from my first run since last fall without particularly breathing hard. I have not magically lost weight or developed muscle mass, I do not have the libido of a 17 year old, I am not the "Cocoon" poster child, but I am not very wrinkly and I repeatedly get carded when I apply for the "60 and over" discount at restaurants or theaters. I was recently called "baby face" by a man of about my age: a friendly insult. Also my blood pressure is within normal limits for my age, despite carrying at least 20# extra. I feel about the same as I did when I was 40. This spring I did some heavy lifting work, which I am not used to. I expected to be sore for the next few days, but I was not. When I explain this to my doctor, he nods politely: about what I expected. He requires me to monitor my BP because of the prescribed medication. He did not appear particularly interested in its possible HGH releasing properties.I have photos of my parents at about my age, and both of them looked considerably older than I do. I have no siblings with whom to compare myself.Personal experience evidence and the book were enough to start me using easily obtainable and inexpensive HGH amino acid supplements as Dr. Katz described. These are available in bulk through E-bay, perhaps through Amazon, and elsewhere. In this form most are less than $30.00 for a year's supply. I tried supplements for a year, lost about 30# (carefully watching my weight and exercising), then stopped taking supplements and stopped watching my weight and gained the 30# back. Would I have lost the weight just by diet and exercise without the supplements? Probably. I have now resumed the HGH supplements (several grams daily as Dr. K. recommended). I believe they work- slowly over time, in the context of a conscientious health maintenance program. I doubt the effectiveness of the supplements if you have an otherwise unhealthy lifestyle.I recommend against the commercial pill supplements for economic reasons. Amino acids are natural components of protein foods. If you ate an entire pound of powdered amino acid it wouldn't taste very good and might make you sick to your stomach, but it wouldn't poison you. This would be a VERY DUMB thing to do and I don't recommend it. Follow Dr. Katz's guidelines on dosage, monitor your weight and exercise, and critically read other and more recent books on the subject as well. Don't ignore your Dr.'s advice, but don't expect him or her to be an automatic expert on this subject either. You CANNOT buy any oral form, spray, or "patch" form of HGH. Real HGH can be purchased without Rx on the internet, but it can only be administered by injections and it is very expensive. I don't want to mess with it.The popular "Dr. Oz" recently recommended the same supplements Dr. Katz recommended (the same supplements I take) on his TV show. If you google "Oz" and "Growth Hormone Amino Acids" you will find his three episodes. An older popular book on HGH is Pearson and Shaw on Life Extension, from the 1970's or early 80's.I recommend Dr. Kenneth Cooper's classic popular book on aerobic exercise as a compliment to any health supplement program.None of the amino acid "secretogogues" are "magic bullets": there is only ONE magic bullet, the one with your name on it. You are absolutely 100% guaranteed to meet it sooner or later. Personally, I don't want to find it any sooner than I have to!

I gotta tell you---it is chock full of very good information. It's easy to read and understand
Strangely, this book sat on the shelf for quite some time before I got around to reading it. However, when I finally got around to reading it, boy...I gotta tell you---it is chock full of very good information. It's easy to read and understand. And for anyone who's getting up in age,you might want to read this book and ultimately get your hands on some HGH. I'm presently making arrangements to begin a three month regimen of HGH. An amazing book about an amazing hormone with a gazillion health benefits! A must read.

Outdated info
I bought this book without checking the publication date (1997). The info was probably very good for that time, but it didn't address anything new today. My bad for not looking closer. Still has some decent information - just dated.

This stuff is for real
My life has changed dramatically for the better since using the info in this book. At first I got a sub-lingual product but it didn't do anything. Then I got Secretagogue Gold and my God, what a change. I went from skinny to buffed. I used the Secretagogue Gold product for two months then quit because it is too expensive and too acidic for me. I have bought the powdered amino acids and I mix my own, like the examples in this book. I take the various vitamins and herbs at the same time and go to bed after a 3 hour water fast. Everybody is amazed, especially me. I'm so much stronger and healthier now. Don't believe all the hype about all these hgh products, go by this book. You'll be a buffed out stud at age 51 (my age) or whatever age you are. You'll laugh at the negative responders on this review page. Buy the book and read it. Good luck.

Very informative
Excellent read! Very informative and well written. Dr. Klatz goes through research showing the efficacy of HGH and how to boost your levels naturally or through prescribed use of HGH replacement therapy. This book is aimed at people 40+ years old wanting to look and feel 20 again, and gives specifics on how to accomplish this! Worth every penny! I highly recommend this for anyone interested in youth therapy or even healing of certain ailments that HGH can be of great benefit for.

Not recommended by me
Too technical- I only wanted something to explain what to take or what would help! Not recommended by me!!

Great coverage of the science behind HGH
Information is not up to date, but makes up for a thorough presentation of supporting studies done pre-2000. Would be great if a new edition would come out covering the latest findings. The book includes a detailed coverage of how HGH influences the body and preserves health and vitality. Dosages are covered, including hazards of taking too much. As the cost still remains ridiculously high and the section covering alternate solutions to increasing HGH in the body is of interest. Highly recommend to anyone interested in health and the effects of aging.
