Permatex Thread Sealant with PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) is an economical general-purpose fitting sealant that seals and resists pressure in air, oil, diesel fuel and hydraulic systems, outperforming tapes and pipe dopes. I’ve used this Permatex PTFE thread sealant on two complete vehicle engine builds, and I’m only about halfway through the bottle, which says a lot about both coverage and value. A little goes a long way, and it applies smoothly without making a mess. I used it on cylinder head studs, intake fittings, transmission line fittings, oil cooler fittings, and several other threaded connections exposed to oil, coolant, and transmission fluid. In every case, it sealed exactly as intended—no seepage, no weeping, and no loosening after heat cycles. What I like most is that it seals while still allowing proper torque, unlike some sealants that either over-lubricate or harden too much. It’s held up against coolant, engine oil, and ATF with zero issues. Threads stayed clean, fittings went in smoothly, and nothing backed out during assembly or operation. ## Questions & Answers

**Q: After you applied this product to a pipe thread and placed the nut, do you have to wait, or can you start running the water right away?**
A: Depends on how much pressure there is. I know if you put it on a airhose fitting and then pressurize it right away, it won't hold and start to push it out of the threads. I think it takes 24hrs to setup fully.

**Q: Use on drinking water systems?**
A: Not sure, I used it on air lines outside. I would use Teflon tape on water.

**Q: Can one use teflon tape, then apply this product on top of the tape (for water pipe threads)?**
A: You would use one or the other, you wouldn't use both... this would take the place of teflon tape.

**Q: Can this be used on a high pressured air mattress hose?  I need something to seal the threads, but not close off the intake/outtake capacity of hose.**
A: Yes, you should be able to use it on air mattress hose, as long as they're threaded and not just push-on type connections
