Review: Moves Some Serious Air — Best Bang for Your Buck - I picked up the Hurricane 20" box fan during a heat wave when my AC couldn't keep up, and honestly, I wasn't expecting much for the price. Boy was I wrong. This thing pushes air like crazy. On high, it'll move curtains across the room. I have it in a roughly 300 sq ft living room and on speed 2 it keeps the whole space comfortable. Speed 3 is honestly overkill for most situations unless you're trying to dry a wet carpet or cool a garage. It's a genuine white noise machine on that setting too—if you sleep with fans, you'll love it. The listing says "quiet speeds" and I'd call that fair—with a grain of salt. Speed 1 is genuinely quiet, just a gentle hum. Speed 2 is moderate—noticeable but not disruptive, even during conversations or TV. Speed 3 is loud, no way around it. But that's the trade-off for moving this much air at this price point. I run it on 2 overnight and sleep fine. It's lightweight plastic, which some might see as cheap, but it makes it easy to move room to room. The carry handle in the back is well-placed. Review: Ludicrous airflow, ludicrous noise. I love it. - I bought this to use as a window fan. I’ve went through 2 actual window fans this year and I NEED. MORE. AIRFLOW. I have a gaming computer in my small bedroom, you can’t escape the laws of thermodynamics, it gets HOT after a while. So I got this HURRICANE floor fan, stuck it in my window, and got rolled pvc liner that goes underneath showers and tile to make it waterproof and create a seal. I cut a hole in the pvc slightly smaller than the fan and stretched it over, and created a flap so I can close it if it’s too warm outside. Let’s talk about the LUDICROUS airflow and LUDICROUS noise. It’s got 3 settings. It’s got a knob with three settings. 1 being the lowest airflow, 3 the highest. 1 lowest- I have not needed to use anything more than this to cool my room. Even on the lowest setting, it’s a hurricane. So much airflow, louder than most fans, but I can still hear well enough that I don’t hear it over my headphones. 2 medium- It’s like sticking your head in the back of a 747 engine. It’s loud as a jet engine. Once again, I don’t care I need LUDICROUS airflow. That’s why I bought this fan. 3 high- It’s creates a continuous blast wave of air, and like a high explosive bomb, it will knock light objects over on my table, invest in paper weights. It’s also loud as a blast wave. You’d have to talk uncomfortably loud to have a conversation in a small room to hear each other. Once again, I NEED LUDICROUS AIRFLOW, I. DON’T. CARE. IF. IT’S. LOUD. There are bladeless fans that are much quieter, but it’s impossible for them to move as much air as this Hurricane fan. It’s got huge blades, they moves a LUDICROUS amount of air, and yeah, it creates LUDICROUS noise on medium and high. I still don’t care. This is the best fan I have ever purchased. I just bought it, so I can’t say how long it will last. But the noise comes from the airflow only, it doesn’t vibrate or spin in an unintended funky way. **Q: Can it blow small, annoying neighborhood children back into their own yard?**
A: What you need is the Binford Tot-Pusher 3000. It's designed just for that purpose. All you have to do is anchor it to the ground with the included yard spikes, set the sensitivity for the motion detector, then set the power to EF-0. It works on kids as well as animals, animal droppings, pool toys, sports equipment, and overgrown shrubs and bushes.

I mostly use mine on solicitors who fail to read the "NO SOLICITORS" sign. In fact, just last week I sent a whole stack of religious pamphlets about 35 miles into the stratosphere.

**Q: Anyone notice burning oil or burning plastic fumes?**
A: I purchased through Amazon a Hurricane 6" clip fan.  I've had the fan a year now and have been using it for at least 8 hours every day.  

Yesterday I started to notice what smelled like SMOKE of some kind.  I though maybe it was coming through an open window, such as from cigarette for example.  Today, and after reading this comment, which I found while beginning some research, I have become certain that the smoky smell is coming from the fan itself, which is located right next to me.  I hate to let this pass without a complaint.  Very disappointing, and probably dangerous, too.

**Q: Does anyone know the exact dimensions?  my window opening is exaclty 20.5 inches, if it is 20.6 it will not fit.**
A: Hope it fit! For those thinking similarly, you will get much more air exchange if you leave the fan a foot back from the window blowing towards the outside. The forced air from the box fan then carries more air out with it via the Bernoulli principle. Open a different window in the room to allow the cool air in!

**Q: how can you clean this fan**
A: Per the instructions:
“1. Be sure to unplug the power cord from the outlet before cleaning.
2. Plastic parts should be cleaned with mild soap and a damp cloth or sponge. Thoroughly to remove soap film with clean water.
3. Be sure not to get water or other liquid on or inside the motor.”

As for the inside, it doesn’t say. I would assume you can get inside by prying the plastic parts apart (there are no screw), but you would have to do this very carefully as to not damage the plastic.

My family and I love loud fans. This is a great fan if you want a loud, strong fan and don't mind buying more within a year. We use ours year-round, but after eight months, it does seem to die down; the sound goes down quite a bit. If you are not looking for an extremely loud fan, it's perfect, but be aware that the sound does decrease over time. I do recommend this item!
