I've tried various dust baths, and the dust is so fine that it gets everywhere: TVs, monitors, inside of electronics, tables, floors, drapes, etc. This can (and has) ruin equipment. It also will get in your lungs and can cause severe breathing difficulties. I was forced to dust my house at least once a week due to that. The thing with this sand is that it is heavier and it will drop to the ground. This means less cleaning and less health hazards. Pet sand that you buy is typically made from pumice or volcanic ash and is usually cleaned of impurities versus sand taken off of a beach which contains microbes, glass, larger pebbles, etc. Although you could potentially save money by grabbing sand from a beach, it is illegal in some instances plus it might be very unhealthy for your pets. The price of this isn't the greatest, but it will save you trips to the store due to size of the package.
