I've used it on a slick floor to keep people from slipping during a transfer or on the seat of a wheelchair to keep them from sliding out. It is quite sturdy but it is unrolled and that can be a problem for some patients. If flattening it would be a problem (it is not a problem at all with two hands) they have thicker products such as place mats that stay flat. The thinner material works just as well it just tends to roll back up a little when picked up. Great products. **Q: How thick is this? I need something I can cut into small bits to wrap around a needle and pull it through tough parts of a quilt.** A: It is about 1/10th of a cm--very thin and very flexible. Just tried a piece wrapped around a regular hand sewing needle. It should work for quilting, I think. **Q: is this food grade silicone?** A: I doubt it. Too sticky.
