I have a Masterbuilt sportsman elite electric smoker. In order to cold smoke cheese or other low heat foods you need a cold smoke attachment, Masterbuilt sells one for about $60. I saw this tube for 1/3 of the cost and after reading some of the other reviews decided to chance um. To smoke cheese I used a full tube of pellets. Lit the pellets with a propane torch till they had a good burn going the blew out the flames, and placed the tube the near the bottom by the fire box. Filled the water pan with ice to help keep the heat down. Closed the door, top vent wide open, let it go for 3hrs. Had a steady stream of smoke for the 3hr cook time. Opened the door took out the smoke tube with a pair of pliers. 4 inches of the pellets were unburned 1 inch smoldering the rest gone. Used in this way the full tube would have burned 4hrs maybe a little more. It burned a little hotter than I expected and I should have checked the ice after 1hr. Tube put out a lot of smoke 2hrs would have yielded better results (not as heavy smoke flavor), but that is not the tubes fault. I keep a journal of everything I smoke, time, temp, type of wood and so on so when I get it right I can replicate it. I can't say how it would work in a gas or charcoal grill as they leak more air in and out, but the tube puts out smoke as advertised. Tube seems well built how long it lasts time will tell. I like the hexagonal shape to keep it from rolling while I'm trying to fill it and to help it stay put in my smoker. I've always been skeptical of just how big a difference a tube smoker (don't ever Google that phrase) could make, but I am sold. I have noticed a big difference in both the amount and the quality of smoke taste added to my cooking and I really love using pellets. The tube and pellet combination is a winner! My shipment arrived very quickly and in good condition. I got the Pellet Smoker Tube for my father for Father's Day. He uses a charcoal grill and sometimes adds soaked hickory chips to the coals because he likes the flavor. I thought he'd really like this (more smoke flavor, pellets don't need soaking). Unfortunately, this item came with no instructions at all. How full do you fill the tube? Do you just light it, set it on the grill and light the grill? How do you put it out when you're done? Do the ashes from the pellets get on the food? Is there a way to prevent that?
