From pictures it looked like it might have extra text on the cover but it does not. Very simple, minimalist and I love the red with gold embossing. The journal has a page for the start of the year prologue. Each month is marked by a page with a different drawing of a door, and a different edge drawing that allows you to find each month easily. I am able to write a couple sentences per day with the 5 lines available. At the end of April, June and September there is an extra empty lined page to give a bit more room to capture thoughts and so the monthly starting page is always on the right. Perfect placement for extra thoughts around the change of seasons, at mid year and 3rd quarter. There is a yearly epilogue page at the end as well.
