Far more practical to use than the rear slot mounted ones, especially for machines where you are changing operating systems frequently.

As much as I wanted to keep using old mechanical drives, they're just a dying breed and I needed to find a way to transfer files on and off my vintage PC builds more easily. Combined with smaller CF cards (you can still buy 32mb or 64mb CF cards new on Amazon), I got a 486 up and running with this quite easily. I had a really old 286 laptop that needed a little extra help in the BIOS to recognize it, but ultimately it works great there now too. Dunno what I'd be doing without this item.
