Couldn't find it anywhere so I was glad to find the DVD set. Packaging is OK but the discs aren't very easy to get out and they're double sided.It's a fun show that is dated but I think holds up pretty well. What I like is how it's more sedated and tries to "do less" than modern shows where everything is held at a fever pitch all the time- huge stakes, so much yelling, the villain is always a mastermind (thinking of the Cumberbatch Sherlock here). This gives it a sort of realism. In the show, people are left over after a plague kills 4999 out of every 5000 people. Some survivors are capable but many are just lost, confused, and have no skills. Maybe because it's British and not American, while there are many guns, people seem reluctant to kill or injure each other. I remember reading that stone age people where/are less ready to do violence to others and if that's true, it seems appropriate that the show depicts this, intentionally or unintentionally.If you're interested in post apocalyptic stuff like The Walking Dead, Jericho, Last Man on Earth, The Rain, The Stand, or zombie stuff in general, this might be a good show to check out. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A long-time favorite in a handy package *by D***Y on Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2022* I saw episodes of this 1975 show in around 1990 (while stationed in Texas); fell in love with it almost instantly. Which is weird when you consider how downbeat and downright depressing the show is. It's a COVID-like End Of Civilization, covered in loving detail from start to finish, and we follow a group of survivors (the veriest handful of humanity is naturally immune to the virus, and no scientists survived long enough to develop a cure) as they wander from place to place, initially on a Person Hunt, later as they set up to survive in an electricity-free world. The absolute background silence (no music at all) was unintentional on the part of the producers--they didn't have time for it--but works so bloody well to convey the lifelessness of the new world. The characters as well change and grow as the series progresses, which is always a good thing. Characters join the cast, characters die or are killed, injustice prevails, and a good time is had by all who aren't living it. :) I snagged seasons 1 and 2 years ago (region-free DVD player, was watching them before they were commercially available in the U.S.), but missed on season 3, and it's not easily available separately now. This Whole Series collection is nicely-priced, though, so I'll just call this one my case and store the two older ones. My season 1 and 2 boxes came with interesting little information booklets about the show; this collection comes with nothing but disks. And the @#$%^&*! disks are double-sided, the viewers' bane. No extra features, but honestly, you come for the show. If you like post-apocalyptic stories (particularly zombie-free. Violence-free, too), you canNOT afford to miss this one. Well-produced, well-written, well-acted--not many shows can say that nowadays, and this one's vintage 1975! Get it. You'll enjoy it. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Haven't watched the whole series yet, but... *by Z***Z on Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2017* I'm impressed with what I've seen so far. This is grimmer than I'd expect from something done for the BBC in the 70's. At times it's almost as harsh as The Walking Dead, which it resembles a lot, but without the zombies or the gore (and that's exactly what I was hoping for when I bought it). Like the Walking Dead, the actions of the other people are the source of the worst problems, and there are plenty of bad ones here. One vigilante group is reminiscent of Negan and the Saviors from Walking Dead.It's fairly realistic in its depiction of a S.H.T.F. scenario, although it is a little weird that supplies are so hard to come by when nearly everyone in the country is dead. They're scrambling for scraps already when the apocalyptic event only recently happened... but, I guess it wouldn't be as dramatic or suspenseful if they were flush with food and ammo, so, that's easy to overlook for the sake of the story.
