I don't think this fabric is heavy enough to wear well as slacks. **Q: will this khaki make school uniforms?** A: It’s a light to medium weight cotton twill. Don’t remember if this listing said it was 100% cotton— there might be some shrinkage during prewash if it is. Actual color is lighter than it appears on my screen. It may be CLOSE to the old girl-scout BROWNIE uniform color in a similar or slightly heavier twill fabric if that helps...I haven’t seen the most recent uniforms! I used it for 1880’s period costuming. It doesn’t get as much wash or wear as a uniform might, Depending on how it’s used, looks like it’s ok to wear year round. I had to line it for cold climate winter/outdoor wear, but you may not need to for your intended purpose; Victorian women didn’t walk around in down parkas in winter months! ;-) **Q: Does this fabric have a sheen to it? Would it be a good weight and fabric for historical costuming (17th or 18th century full length skirt)?** A: I used it for a partially flannel-lined ladies 1885 walking length 2 piece costume myself—so it WILL work, depending on the era. It had a VERY slight sheen to it before prewashing—which isn’t there now that it’s been washed and worn a few times.
