Will this gate fit with the hardware or does it only extend to 42in?** A: With hardware you might be able to make it work but, I am not sure how well will it lock. I have placed wood board over drywall side of my opening to mount hardware to. If it is short you can add nice peace of trim to make if fit. **Q: Is the hardware sold separately and if so where can I get what I need?** A: Hello! My husband made it work without permanently altering the sides of the door opening. we have a puppy so we know eventually we won’t need the gate anymore. It’s a bit make-shifty because if it’s temporary nature and it can be improved by painting it. Each side is altered with three pieces of wood secured by large screws which serves to clamp it down into place. I suppose you can use an actual wood clamp but that would look even more make-shifty. Pressure is created by screwing the wood pieces together so it’s not screwed into the wall at all. (Hopefully it won’t leave an indentation). I hope the video gives you an idea of what was done. The wood was placed at the upper-middle side of the door opening and the gate is secured by pushing the handle down securing it in place with a pressure mount, as you know. It works really well. In the video it look like I was struggling to remove it and put it back into place but I have arthritis in my hands pretty bad and that’s why I was struggling. It’s very simple to release the gate and put it back into place. I love this gate. We have another one downstairs in our kitchen that does not need adjusting. Anyway, I hope this helps you. The bad thing is the instructions are locked between the two panels. The unlock position is only for quick removal from a doorway. To slide the gate open: pull the handle up to the unlock position. Hold the side button in and pull the handle up to the double arrows.
