This book is bloody brilliant! I have read other ‘self help’ books and lost it by chapter 2, felt preached at or simply couldn’t be arsed with the science and the feeling I was being told off …. again! This book is real. It’s embarrassingly real but whilst you squirm at your own drunken memories when things weren’t quite as they should have been (generally work Xmas parties for me when I then had to have 2 weeks off sick in the hope everyone would have forgotten about ‘the fun’ I created by then) you realise you’re not the only one and, tbh, this guy was hardcore for 17 years so he’s done all I have and more several times over. It’s just a real account of someone else’s life with loads of parallels to my own and although I hadn’t got to the same point as Sean,any point where you’re questioning your relationship with alcohol (and or drugs) is enough. Anyway by day 4 being up without the need for paracetamol and feeling great after the first nights sleep in ages (where I hadn’t had to wake and drink water like a racehorse in the middle of the night, several times) someone at work commented that I looked ‘good’. Now don’t get me wrong, I didn’t look good, I still look like a bag of shit BUT someone had noticed that a proper, deep, good nights sleep had affected me in a positive way! That was only day 4 but gave me the determination to keep going. I am combining the book with a sleep meditation and it’s definitely working for me. The book is brutally honest, funny, factual (without being boring), inspiring and has filled me with confidence that I can sort this now before it becomes a massive problem! What’s not to lose? After all these years of ‘thinking about retraining as a Pilates teacher’ - I’ve now registered to do something about it. I know I will achieve more being sober on this drunk planet than running with the crowd, it’s well worth a read - thanks Sean :) Review: Very helpful aid to reducing or giving up alcohol - Easy to read and very helpful. I have always loved going to the pub with friends, but one drink does always lead to another and before you know it you are out of pocket with a banging headache the next day. I've also been the one out till 4 in the morning and in work at 9 with everyone looking at you bedraggled. Stopping alcohol is a bit like smoking nowadays and the youngsters seem to be adverse towards it.
