If you mean one with hinges that goes opens toward the back of the tank, the skimmer is at 90 degrees so it would be close. You also have to account for the plumbing going into the tank. I have read that if you over skim the skimmer doesn't work correctly. I'd like to give this one a try.** A: You might be able to use this on 29+ but on a 20 gallon this skimmer might look silly. A skimmer does not have a con of over skimming, any skimmer will only skim the dirt available. It is up to you to add nutrients back into the tank if you have corals. For fish only, a skimmer can not take away too many nutrients, you should just be doing good water changes. Once you start a skimmer you should never turn it off, you must keep the tank nutrients balanced. **Q: How do u connect the collection drain pipe intoe xternal drain?** A: The lid for the right side of the skimmer has a air hose and silencer for the Venturi and on the lid it has a corner missing. That corner would be turned where the overflow pipe can slide in to the chamber.
