You used to be able to find this sentence every where you would find Airfix- when asked who we were, this was our default response. Factually, it is correct. We are the oldest UK manufactuer of scale plastic model kits, but that's not why you should trust us with your hobby. That explains what we do, but not why we do it. Airfix is home to a team of people who work tirelessly; be it researching potential products, designing your favourite models, building and rebuilding to ensure perfection, writing blogs to keep you company in the quiet, laughing along with you on social media, supporting you on the forums or solving your problems on the phone. We come into work every day ready to go above and beyond for our customers and our brand because we believe in it and all it has to offer. We think modelling offers a great escape from screens and allows you to 'switch off'. We have found love and laughter in sharing in your modelling memories; the greatests hits and the hardest misses. We feel immense pride watching you all rise to every challenge we present, without hesitation. And we love knowing that we're feeding creativity everywhere. At Airfix, passion drives everything that we do. It ensures that our horizons remain broad and the skies will always be limitless. We refuse to simply rest on the laurels of being the oldest brand- we will always strive to be the best brand, above all, for you. Our story begins in 1939, London. With the world on the cusp of war, Hungarian refugee Nicholas Kove created the first iteration of Airfix, a company which at the time manufactured rubber inflated toys. Kove had become a keen businessman in the years since he’d left Hungary so when it came to choosing a name for his new venture, he combined the process of fixing air into products, with his belief that all successful companies should have their names at the beginning of business directories. Thus, Airfix was born! Airfix is the oldest UK manufacturer of scale plastic model kits and has been producing kits for the mass market since 1952. Although you might know us best for our iconic aircraft models, the last few years have been a journey of discovery and exploration for us in terms of branching out into other products. Since teaming up with Humbrol, we’ve really focused on arming our modellers with everything they might need to create their own little world. We’ve found great success with our own plastic figures, buildings, and diorama kits. We’ve even taken on the challenge of replicating some of history’s most beautiful ships and vehicles, resulting in an incredibly diverse range of products. Perhaps one of our most exciting ventures has been the development of the Quickbuild brand, a range of brick-based models with no glue or paint needed! It’s been the perfect introduction to modelling for many beginners looking to join our community and is expanding all the time! ## Features - Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XII: The Mk XII was the first production version of the Spitfire to use the Rolls-Royce Griffon engine. Thisl kit was a gift but you can't actually make it as supplied. In tiny letters on the side of the box it tells you that poly cement (glue) is not included! I can understand that the different paints are not included though they would be useful but the glue! Very disappointing. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ some parts break easiley *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 3 August 2024* ok ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ファーストグリフォンスピットファイア *by on Reviewed in Japan 31 January 2023* Mk.Ⅻはグリフォンエンジンを搭載した最初のスピットファイアで、英本土に低空侵入してくるFw190Aを迎撃する為に低高度用グリフォンエンジンを搭載していました。 ## Frequently Bought Together - Airfix Model Set - A05117A Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XII Model Building Kit - Plastic Model Plane Kits for Adults & Children 8+, Set includes Sprues & Decals - 1:48 Scale Model - Vallejo RAF Colors Special Battle of Britain 'Air War Color Series' Model Paint Kit, contains 8 x 17ml bottles - Vallejo - Plastic Putty 20 ml (0.67 fl.oz.) | White, Opaque, Consistent Finish --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.pt/products/435659712-airfix-model-set-a05117a-supermarine-spitfire-mk-xii-model-building](https://www.desertcart.pt/products/435659712-airfix-model-set-a05117a-supermarine-spitfire-mk-xii-model-building) --- *Product available on Desertcart Portugal* *Store origin: PT* *Last updated: 2026-11-06*
