Super Hazard Quest is a dynamic board game that combines the excitement of retro pixel video games with the social interaction of tabletop gaming. Featuring 54 item cards, 26 dungeon cards, and 8 character tokens, players embark on an ever-changing adventure filled with challenges and treasures, all without the need for batteries or complicated setup.

## Description

Super Hazard Quest is a table top game inspired by retro video games. But Super Hazard Quest not only references classic side scrollers, it plays like them too. Like many of its inspirations, the goal of Super Hazard Quest is to defeat the game’s “FINAL BOSS” . But only one hero can take the glory. Giant “DUNGEON” cards make up the game’s “board”. Each card features a unique room in the adventure, complete with obstacles (or HAZARDS) that stand in a hero’s way. “ITEM” cards, along with each hero’s innate ability, help players navigate from room to room. Whenever an unexplored part of the Dungeon is reached, a new Dungeon card is drawn from the deck and connected. Thus, the level builds as the heroes explore. Hidden among the Dungeon cards are Boss Rooms, including the game’s Final Boss. But ordinary Items won’t be enough. A magic CRYSTAL, well protected by Mini Bosses, are the only weakness of the game’s ultimate villain. Heroes must first find a Mini Boss , earn a Crystal and be the first to reach the Final Boss in order to win. It’s all the fun of multi player retro gaming without ever having to blow into a cartridge

Review: Super Hazard Quest, Boss Monster and Dokapon Kingdom - I own every Boss Monster expansion and this goes very well with it. Super Hazard Quest has completely different game play yet the look and atmosphere is the same as Boss Monster. They both have the retro look, references to other popular games and the overall plot is basically the same (Heroes have to go into a dungeon to beat a boss as rooms in the dungeon are being built by drawing and flipping over cards). Boss Monster is basically answering the question, "What if you were a card game version of a final boss to a video game?" Then Super Hazard Quest answers the question, "What if you were one of the heroes from Boss Monster?" I cannot unsee the game play in Super Hazard Quest unfolding behind the scenes of Boss Monster now (and the reverse also). It has the flexibility to be played competitively, cooperatively or some sort of combination of the two. The rules support both although only one player gets to defeat the boss at the end. The rules are actually pretty simple despite the lengthy rule book. There are 10 main obstacles in the game. Four of them are directions you can go. Four of them are different ways to fight monsters. You have to match one of your abilities or cards in your hand to get past these obstacles. The ninth type of obstacle are Mini bosses. They require you to match several of the previously listed obstacles at once. You get a prize for beating them that could be the item you need to beat the boss when you meet them. The boss requires a crystal matching its color to beat it. You can work with other players or undermine their efforts. If you liked the combat in Dokapon Kingdom (a Playstation 2 and Nintendo Wii game) you may like fighting other players in this game too (for those that don't know this underrated video game, the concept is similar to rock, paper, scissors). This game is longer and harder when you aren't playing it as a co op game. The only thing I would change about this game is the art for one of the bosses. They look cool but they are just the same guy in two different colors. If they ever come out with expansion for this, I would get it!

**Q: How much is this game like Boss Monster?**
A: The short answer - Not at all!

The longer answer - and in being completely honest, the game was inspired by Boss Monster’s promised concept of bringing a classic video game to the table top. We own Boss Monster. We like Boss Monster. But as retro video game fans, we felt Boss Monster was a tabletop card game wearing only the skin of an NES game. Super Hazard Quest tries to actually recreate that classic side scroller feeling on the tabletop. Rule wise, the games couldn’t be more different. Though purely from an aesthetic standpoint, both games draw from similar inspiration.

**Q: How long Is a normal game?**
A: For two players playing for the first time, took us ~20 to 30 miuntes. Most of the time was figuring out the not-so-clear rules.

**Q: Can a single player game be played without the expansions (which are all sold out currently on the website)?**
A: The only way to play a single player game is with the single player expansion. The expansion was sold via the website, but is currently sold out. You can try emailing superhazardquest@gmail.com and asking when they'll have more in stock, or if they know another way to get one.

**Q: Can this be played solo?**
A: You cannot play the main game solo but there is an add on pack you can buy through hazard quests website
