Does it have a function?** A: it extends and retracts the hook that grabs the latch. it's very forgiving if you didn't exactly measure where you should set it **Q: What is the travel distance: measurement fully extended, measurement fully closed?** A: The total travel distance is approximately 7/32 of an inch. The actual maximum spring compression portion is only about 1/8 of an inch after which it is solid. The main issue that I ran into is the mounting holes for the latch are perpendicular to the latch and have no provision for adjustment while the hook mounting holes are parallel to the hook.
