You pull it back out after sinking the duckbill. 18" duckbill uses a drive rod with a machined tip so you probably are better off getting the rod with it. If you use 30" duckbills then you might find a steel rod that fits locally. It doesn't have special machining at tip. Look at load ratings vs your intended use. Also read comments about pre-driving hole before installing. It helps. I use a pipe wrench to help pull the driving rod out. It can be a bear if you just pound it in without stopping. **Q: Does this come with the driving rod?** A: No it does not but I dont recommend the rod. IT slips through the anchor and doesnt carry enough strength. I used a round steel stake like one uses for holding concrete foundation forms in place. those are large enough and strong enough to drive the anchor in **Q: What is the diameter of the wire cable?** A: You can get from small to large cables.
