It is essentially 3 parts: the case, the blade and a fold in/fold out blade extension receptor. The fold in/fold out blade tip receptor covers (very effectively/safely) the last few inches of blade WHEN it is closed up; otherwise the blade, when closed, would be protrude a few inches longer than the main hard case, so that extended blade needs to be covered when putting it back in case; this functions well and seems very solid and effective and is VERY UNIQUE feature). 5. Case Fit: After opening up the blade end cover, such that it. is over the blade of the last few inches, you must put it in the case in proper manner such that the tab that snaps over it covers and holds the knife VERY SECURELY in case. NOTE: Mine had NO INSTRUCTIONS with it, but was easy for me to figure out ... but I added these details since mine came w/o instructions and might help others to figure out this VERY UNIQUE big knife, that folds down to compact size and a secure carry case.
