## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can you use the compression function without the ice pack, for the periods when you have to pause the icing post surgery?**
A: Yes, the ice pack is removable. Not sure if it will be of benefit without ice pack. I sleep in mine, still, after knee replacement surgery 4 months ago.

**Q: Does this wrap the whole knee, i.e. including the back?**
A: Hi: Thank you for your question. The knee wrap does wrap around the back of the knee but it does not ice the back of the knee. It wraps around the back of the knee so that it can hold the wrap in place. It does also ice the side of the knees but not the back of the knees. I hope this answer was helpful.

**Q: Can I get additional ice packs?hb**
A: Yes, I ordered a second one on amazon

**Q: Possibly facing knee replacement. Will one suffice or should I order two in order to have a frozen one ready when needed?**
A: Hi and thanks for you question. You should check with your doctor. Many doctors recommend only icing for 20-30 minutes every few hours . If that is the case then one gel pack should suffice. If not, in about three weeks we will have the second gel pack available for sale. You should wear a piece of clothing between you skin and the gel pack, especially if you have cold sensitivity. Good luck with your surgery.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A must for Total Knee Replacement recovery!
*by D***F on November 26, 2017*

So I am now 2 weeks and 2 days post TKR. At the hospital I used a very unwieldy cold compression unit that was attached to an ice water source unit that required someone else to manage it. As soon as I got home, I started using this knee “painsoother”. It fit very comfortable with the Velcro straps around the new knee joint. What made this most beneficial was the air bladder built into the wrap that provided a well distributed cold application all around the knee. The compress stayed well chilled for the amount of time I was prescribed to use it( 20 mins on...3-4x a day). When I used it I put a dish towel between my skin and the compress and therefore used it more like 7-8 times a day. The cold definitely keeps the pain under control, but, as importantly, also helps to keep the swelling down. My recovery has been amazing, my flexion and extension has me at a 4-6 week position. I attributed this on large part to the facility and ease of using this compress( vs wraps with ice cubes or even the machine the hospital wanted to give me).For those with future planned Total Knee Replacement, I definitely recommend ordering this prior so as to have on hand for when you get home.7/30/2020... So now I have the dubious opportunity of adding to my previous review, because I just went through another knee replacement surgery. I, fortunately, had a den in the basement that I turned into my temporary convalescent room. This time I preordered two more I’ve packs, so I had 4 ice packs that I could rotate for use. In addition, knowing I wanted my ice packs cold and for use as soon as I needed them, I bought a small(college dorm) size fridge that I put on a low table within arms reach. This fridge’s sole purpose was to freeze the bags, and when the dial was cranked up( not even all the way), the bag I took out was always extremely cold!., and they were not even in the small freezer section. Water bottles would freeze if left in too long( so these small fridges work great for these ice bags. So now I was set for the surgery, which went well again. At the hospital, this time they had an ice machine that worked the way the older model I had the first time , but now the water circulated. The key word is “water”. Yes, the container had ice and water mixed, but it was the cold water that moved around, not ice. At the hospital, this was good, but you had to depend on someone to come in, change the water, add ice, and there was always a loss in pain management momentum. When I got home, I immediately switched to my pain soother wrap. Both in the hospital with their machine and at home with the painsooother it is advised to put a towel between your knee and the wrap to avoid any type of “tissue burn”. At the hospital the skin, of course, was more sensitive having gone through major surgery, at home the skin now is already starting to heal. The ice bath doesn’t really pass ice around the knee, only cold water. To me, it worked to a point, but did not have the effectiveness of putting something almost frozen close to the affected area. One thing I did this time at home was to keep a wide ace wrap with zero compression from top of knee to bottom. This obviated the need for the nuisance towel applied before the wrap that would sometimes shift it’s position during use causing rewrapping. It also had a small amount of friction by its surface that made the wrap stay in place so much better. The last thing it did was to create closer, more intimate contact between the wrap and the knee. I will apply the ice pack thusly without any concern of the ice affecting the skin, because, even as you are applying it, it is starting to thaw, and here I am 11 days out having used this wrap technique almost 18/7.At night, I do fall back to the other ice machine from the hospital, because even though it is not as effective as the paimsoother for me, I don’t want to wake up to change the ice pack, nor rely on someone else. At this point, I am only on OTC analgesics , and I 100% attribute this to the way the pain soother controlled so well my post op swelling at home. I am still having PT done at home, having the ice pack in place just before the therapist comes, and immediately placing it after, has been the best pain management tool! Good luck to anyone needing to go through this.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Just what you need for knee surgery
*by P***L on March 14, 2025*

We bought this when my wife needed a total knee replacement. Having the ability to pump in air made the wrap fit exactly where she needed it. The gel pack, once total frozen, lasts about 45 minutes before it thaws and comes to room temperature. My wife spent a couple of days with no pain meds except Tylenol as she was dealing with a medication allergy. This wrap and gel pack got her through the pain that Tylenol couldn't take care of. But now we know she's allergic to a particular class of pain medication and know the alternative medication that she will need in the future. If you are a larger person, you might want to invest in some Velcro strips at your local WalMart or sewing shop, and the Velcro straps aren't quite long enough for someone with a large calf. All in all, this was a terrific purchase.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I like this product!!!!!
*by T***L on December 23, 2022*

I had a total knee replacement about eight weeks ago. I am still in unbearable pain, so I was looking for something that might help and make things a bit easier for me. I live alone and I have no help. had bone on bone in my left knee andI have bone on bone in my right knee. The surgeon is already ready to do the surgery on the right knee. I don't know if I want to do another surgery on my knee, as this is so painful!!! I think I will just be in pain forever because knee surgery has been too painful for me. I have had two surgeries on the left knee in the past 2 years. The pain is too unbearable. So I was looking for an ice pack that was easy to use to help with pain relief. I saw this one and I thought I would give it a try. I got it right away and I placed the gel pack in the freezer. After about 90 minutes, I took it out and put it all together. I put it on my left knee and compressed it to my knee. It was awesome!!! I could walk around with it on my knee/leg. I made lunch and sat down to eat. The cold felt so good on my knee. I was thinking about getting another one, but the reason that I only gave 4 stars is because it is a wonderful product, but the gel pack doesn't stay cold too long and that is the reason why I am not sure if I want to get another one of these. I am constantly putting it back in the freezer to get more cold to the knee. But other than that, it is a very nice item. It velcros the gel pack inside the knee wrap and it velcros to your knee/leg. That is very convenient. I just really wish that the gel pack would stay cold longer.
