Review: Picks up pesky sweet gum balls! - My neighbor has a sweet gum tree that is beautiful in the fall but really becomes a nuisance in the winter. In early winter it starts to drop sweet gum balls (also called witches burrs, a more apt name, in my opinion) by the dozens in my yard. These spiny little balls hurt like heck if you step on them; they can also cause falls. I needed something that would save me some time in picking these pesky little things up and I believe I’ve found it in the medium sized Zoen Nut Gatherer. After I put it together I spent only a few minutes in my yard rolling it over a small area and it picked up numerous sweet gum balls, as well as small pinecones and acorns. I’m pleased, as I previously had to pay someone to handle this task. The unit was very simple to get ready for use, as well. The only drawback is getting the sweet gum balls out, as they clump together, but not a deal breaker. Highly recommend!

**Q: Stupidly inserted pole in without seeing the label that said how to line it up. Can't line up, insert screws or remove. Suggestions?**
A: Remove screws. There is a slight groove in the pole, it will slide in when lined up. Reinsert screws.

**Q: Can this handle small dried black beans?**
A: I think you would need a smaller gatherer. The tines on this one accommodate larger nuts, like black walnuts with no issues. Small dried black beans would fall right through.

**Q: Will it work with nerf type darts and balls; half length, regular, mega, mega xl and rival rounds?**
A: I've not tried it with anything "nerf" type. But with sweet gums you have to press pretty hard. I really couldn't tell you how it would work with something soft.

**Q: I'm seeing that it only holds one gallon. Is there something else that holds more acorns?**
A: We gave away a bag that can hold 4 gallons.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ works well, if you keep up

Pros: it works well, picks up black walnuts quite nicely. When the cage is empty, you will have to put push down to pick up nuts, but once it starts getting filled, the weight of the basket will do it for you. It is very light. It's pretty inexpensive for what you get. Cons: The light weight is due to the large amount of plastic. The ends of the cage sits in plastic holders. I don't know how long it will last as it's plastic rolling against plastic, there are no metal bearings The cage isn't held in very strongly, when shaking the cage to empty the basket, it can, and will, pop off. It's easy to put back on though. Use: works best when there aren't nuts all over, you can't use this after all your walnuts have fallen, works best when there is some space between nuts. Doesn't work well at all in deep grass. By deep, 4-5 inches or taller. The nuts will be embedded in and under the grass and won't be picked up. If you keep up with the nuts falling, and don't mind emptying if often, this is a good unit. If you have a lot a walnuts, from 3 or more trees, this is a bit under the task. And keep the grass trimmed!
