I don't know if these are still being made, but there is a small cap that fits over the base when the antenna is removed to eliminate rain and such. **Q: does the k40 antenna support the cb weather bands?** A: Yes, my Bearcat receives the weather channels with no problem. **Q: Is this a magnetic mount or capable of mounting on the center of a auto roof without drilling?** A: Yes Rich, as long as the auto roof is made of STEEL. The magnet is one of the strongest holding magnets I have ever seen. And the long whip, once tuned really adds to a good Cb. Doran **Q: I have the uniden 980ssb, a cb / sideband radio. how is the performance on sideband with this antenna?** A: It works excellent with my Cobra 140 SSB CB. I used the magnetic mount in the center of the roof of my F-150. Sometimes 30 to 40 miles without skip on side band.
