The answer is in how you respond to your dog pulling. A double headed lead has the advantage that a small tug of the lead attached to the collar will distract the dog from pulling while you still have the security of the other end being attached to a harness. When you dog pulls stop walking and bring the dog to heal, when he stops pulling resume your walk, as soon as he pulls stop again. You may not get very far but you are teaching your dog that you are in charge. It takes time and patience. I have use it at full length, half length, shortest length and around my waist for different purposes and all work great. The metal clips feel secure and it does feel easier to control my dog than with other leads. The orange is darker, like a terracotta which is great for mucky walks.
