Review: An excellent way to remotely or locally control your central heating system - I purchased this as a replacement to my bar bones analogue controller that came with my boiler. The main features are quite appropriate for this day and age. The setup instructions are quite simple and not too much technical expertise is necessary as it basically should replace your existing control setup for the remote outstation that you connect to the boiler/heater. Remember if you are not confident please get a competent person to fit it. The programmable thermostat itself is wireless and can be fitted to a wall via a supplied bracket or used on a table, etc with a supplied stand. A thoughtful feature is that the controller is removable, it clips into the wall bracket and can be easily unclipped from it and then clipped into the stand. Handy if you desire a more sensitive control over your exact position in your residence. So essentially the system works as follows, there is a outstation which you fit to your boiler via cabling, easy to do which acts as a demand module, it purely turns your boiler on and off when it receives a signal from the controller. Then there is the thermostatic controller, which is battery operated and wireless and is removable from its wall and stand bracket and is touch sensitive. It has a white text on the black screen just like in the pictures on his listing. Lastly there is a gateway which is plugged into your router via an Ethernet cable, it acts as an Internet gateway/access to the thermostatic controller. Basically an access point to your Internet connection at home. You can program the controller locally or via their web-portal or Android/IOS app. That beaing you can change/add time programs and set temperature set points, as well as putting your heating manually ON, OFF or in Automatic mode. The Android and IOS Apps works fine and come with the necessary feature to control your heating just fine, but they could do with a few more features such as a timed override and a bit of a visual overhaul. But nonetheless the current Apps work just fine and the mentioned improvements are a bonus as it works and does what it needs to do, the extra features would be a nice extra. Also if you ever move/sell your house you can simply give the new residents the device ID and they can now control it themselves, no need to worry about transferring an account, it is purely a simple device ID that needs to be entered in. This could admittedly be an issue as anyone could get the ID and connect to it via their account or you could simply leave the ID associated to your account when you sell/move and mess with the new residents but that would be wrong. A security update would be nice to avoid this, maybe a code that needs to be confirmed when registering a new controller or confirming/disassociating old registrations. The controllers and modules also look nice and modern, not simple chunky plastic boxes. Basically and all round excellent central heating control package. I certainly recommend it. The remote control via apps, etc features are perfect if you ever forget to program or remove programs such as on holiday, saving cash and providing a hassle free way of changing programs or simply turning the system OFF without disrupting your precious timings. Overall a very good system that is worth the price, very handy, very programmable and I suppose more efficient that standard heating systems.
Review: Does the job - but one or two niggles during setup - easily sorted. - Over all this is a very nice bit of kit. I was waiting for the Nest thermostat but gave up as its not likely in UK any time soon. From my research the Salus was the next best thing. It was easy to set up. The little Wi-Fi thing plugs into your router and the light goes green almost immediately the thermostat is recognised as soon as you put the batteries in. Then the first problem was when you try and register on the web site (important as the web tool is a lot easier than trying to set your programs on the thermostat itself)it will not send a verification email to a Gmail account it seems - or if it does it is deleted and no it is not in junk mail. I used a xxxx.net account which was fine and the verification email was instantaneous. The thermostat was easy to configure and mount on the wall why you would need a plumber or electrician I am not sure. Pairing was tricky as the manual was appallingly inaccurate - when the light goes red on the receiver it will stay red until you touch the "tick" button on the thermostat then the light goes green again, this is not mentioned in the manual!! Once this is done it all works like a dream. The web tool is great and the iPhone app seems good enough - I am happy with this device and the house is nice and warm! Jobs a good un and it took 45 minutes from start to finish and no I am not a builder plumber or electrician. As an update I have been living with this for a week now and it exceeds all expectations. very solid and reliable and controler good on iphone mac and PC. Easy to control from anywhere. A further update - a small irritation is that the software (both PC and smartphone) does not apear to have an "ON" button so that with a touch you can manually turn on the CH to do this you seem to have to play around with the temperature setting this is irritating and could be sorted out with a software update.Otherwise continues to be a pleasure to use. As an update now after 9 months of use I have seen our gas heating bill cut by about 15%.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Has anybody had there controller lock it'self l? If so how do you unlock?**
A: Press the tick button and the return arrow at the same time. This switches between lock/unlock

**Q: Hi, i have the rt501rf wireless thermostat with the round receiver in the boiler. is it as easy as swapping out the controller for the it500**
A: Yes if your familiar with heating ,and heating controls. If not seek professional help.

**Q: For traditional programmer:u set it and let it run. How do people generally use the IT500 for? Does it actually save you money on gas consumption how?**
A: Yes it does because you can connect remotely to your central heating system using your mobile phone and switch your heating On or Off which means particularly in our case for instance during the caravan nine season we turn the heat off on Friday when we leave to go to the caravan and when we are coming home on Sunday evening we just log in to the Salus on the mobile phone and switch the heating to Auto and when we get home the water is hot and the house is warm but we have not had to leave it on Friday evening and Suturday and Sunday when there is nobody in the house. Also when we go on our Winter holiday for 2 weeks we can turn the heating off and check the room temperature daily using the mobile phone and if it is too cold just turn the heating to Auto for a while till the temperature comes up to a satisfactory. The IT500 is the best system ever and so easy to use remotely. Also our heating system is Oil Fired and just ran on the Boiler Thermostat and temperature control of the house was done by opening and closing the living room door now thanks to the IT500 it is also a Thermostat which means we sit in a very comfortable and the thermostat in the IT500 controls the Boiler, it is brilliant and I personally could not recommend it enough to anybody. Remember you need to be connected to Broadband in your house to have the Router to allow remote access.

**Q: Does SAULUS internet Thermostat work for the old open vented system ( non combi boiler, just got hot water cylinder and cold water tank in the loft)?**
A: I have installed the Salus iT500 on a similar system and it works very well. I control both heating and hot water through the Salus system.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Long term review - Excellent product, great customer support
*by C***E on 5 January 2014*

I've been using the iT500 for a few days now and these are my observations. The hardware is well made and looks good. Installation was very quick and easy other than the wiring of the boiler receiver where I needed an electrician as the back plate did not match my existing landis and gyr programmer. The wireless connections between the 3 parts of the system are very stable and work over a good distance with several walls in between. I've checked the thermostat reading and it is accurate and responsive and room temperatures are being kept within 0.5 degrees either side of the set temperature. The app (and website) software for controlling the device works fine but is a bit clunky compared with today's standards. It is useful to have the flexibility of 6 temperature settings per day; if they are not all wanted then the superfluous ones can be set to the middle of the night. The significance of this is that the manual temperature override (which can be done on the thermostat touch screen or over the internet) is cancelled when the next programme setting is reached. So if you turn down the temperature because you're out of the house and want it to continue beyond the next programme setting you have to either reset the next programme time or remember to override the programmed temperature again when the next programme time is reached. It would be easier if the app included an 'away' button' which overrode all programmed temperature settings until cancelled. Hopefully Salus will add this feature to the app. Overall though very good. SALUS iT500 SMART INTERNET THERMOSTAT - NEW - PROGRAMS VIA ANDROID iPHONE I've now been using the thermostat for over 2 1/2 years now. I remain very pleased with the product. It has worked flawlessly until 2 weeks ago when the thermostat went offline. It appeared to be a problem with the gateway, which wasn't showing a light. I contacted customer support who responded within 1 hour with suggestions of what to do and offering to sent a replacement gateway if the suggestions didn't work. As suspected the suggestions didn't work so I emailed customer services and they dispatched a replacement by courier which I received the following day - all at no charge. The unit is now working again and I'm a happy and impressed bunny. Well done Salus!
