Newer remotes will not work on older models that old. you should get a used remote from ebay or other outlets the correct model remote for the str-d590 is RM-U222. They have them on ebay. good luck **Q: anyone know if this would work on the str-dn1040 for the volume and bluetooth feature?** A: I haven’t tested it with that particular device but what I can tell you is that there are buttons on this remote that do activate/ work on features for my stereo that otherwise were not on the original remote. Example: my stereo has a “pure direct” feature but the PD button was not on my original remote.
