The quality of the box itself is first class and seemed to be a bit upmarket than I am accustomed to getting but what about the optics - I thought. The instrument was well wrapped inside the box with a membrane of plastic on the two surfaces of the lens for protection. The quality soft pouch with drawstring and lens cleaning cloth are a bonus. The instruction manual is in the Queens English for a change too, not that it is needed though inmost part. The GLASS optics, not cheap plastic that scratches if you even look at it, are first rate with a wide usable area without any excessive distortion like some I have sent back! The light appears to be daylight balanced and the spread is more than adequate even at the edges. I own some very expensive camera lenses and I would put this magnifying glass in the same category or close too. I will use it a lot for inspecting photographic prints after printing them and it is proving to be indispensable tool already. The only criticisms I have is the handle and the positing of the 3X magnifier lens. The handle is very comfortable but slippery like Teflon. An imbedded couple of thin rubber strips would be a great improvement - for me anyway. The 3X magnifier that's in the three o'clock position on the lens gets in the way slightly to me for general reading and believe it would be better placed at six o'clock. Excellent tool! The image quality is never as good with acrylic lenses as it would be with glass - but a glass one this size would be far too heavy. Viewing method is very different from glass lenses of the same magnification so the user manual tells how to zoom it away from the item being viewed and bring towards your eye until the magnification is sufficient for easy reading or inspecting what you're looking at. The instructions shouldn't really say "You Must insert the 3 AAA batteries before you turn the light on" as this implies you will break it if you try to turn it on without batteries. It should be "The light will not be functional until you insert 3 AAA batteries (not included). But that's just a niggle - It was nice to find a device with LED lights that doesn't require those wretched coin batteries that always need the one you haven't got I was a little confused about the 3 different magnifications as I imagined there were going to be clip on higher powered lenses but the extra 2x 4x 10x options are built in tiny lenses concentric at the edges. So, a good product can well recommend it. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very large but lightweight illuminated magnifying glass *by R***A on 14 November 2021* The main and distinguishing feature of this magnifying glass over most other models, is the very large size of the main lens, at around 130mm visible diameter. The magnification is a comfortable x2. It can used, for example, to read a page of small print, without the need to move it along the rows. Instead, you can keep it still, not too close to the page or your eye, and read comfortably with a whole line of text visible at once, and with both eyes open. Set within the main lens at the 9 o'clock position, is a small x4 lens. Having it within the main lens does slightly encroach on your main viewing area, but this is the trade-off for having the convenience of being able to find the x4 lens easily without much movement. Also, set at the top of the handle is a third lens with a powerful, x10 magnification. This can be very useful, but it needs to be held close to your subject and also very close to your eye. Also on the handle, close to where your right thumb would rest, (assuming you are holding it in your right hand), there is a button to press to switch the light on, and press again to switch off. This activates three bright LEDs on the underside of the handle to illuminate your subject. It could be very useful if reading in low light, or looking at a map in a car, for example. The lights need three AAA batteries (not included). The handle is nicely rounded and comfortable. the lens, being acrylic, is much lighter than it would be if glass but still makes the whole thing a little bit top-heavy. On the plus side, this was the only model I found which had such a large main lens. The other two lenses are of useful and practical magnifications and are a bonus. It comes in a carboard box, and also includes a black, drawstring bag, and a small cleaning cloth. The lens has a clear plastic peel-off protective cover on both sides when it arrives, which is an indication of care and attention to detail. On the negative side, whilst it feels pretty solid if you shake it, there is just a little bit of play in the rim, such that you feel and hear a slight rattle of the main lens, when you put it down on a hard surface. But it seems secure and not about to fall out. Also, whilst the light button is very easy to operate, I would have preferred a sliding switch and one which is less at risk of being switched on accidentally and draining your batteries, whilst being transported. But I appreciate that, if being used by the elderly perhaps, the easy-to-use push button is advantageous. It is good to have the black cloth bag, to keep it clean and also out of direct sunlight (to avoid the risk of starting a fire if left unattended) but I would perhaps have preferred a stiffer plastic sleeve, like a spectacles pouch for example, but then I suppose this would have been more costly to produce and added to plastic waste.
