Review: Perfect drive for a NAS box. - I was lucky enough to receive a Synology DiskStation for my birthday as I've always been grumbling about my files being scattered across a hot-potch of small capacity external hard drives and USB sticks. The diskstation came 'bare bones' and contained no hard drives, so I started looking to see what hard drive(s) would be best to get. I'm not a massive hoarder of files, but I've got a sizeable music collection and a growing collection of movies, not to mention that I regularly record videos on my camera phone that I want to keep. In the end, I decided to go for one of these Seagate IronWolf 2Tb drives. I've been running this drive for six months now and the whole time I've been using it, it's remained quite, fast and hasn't skipped a beat. I'm not entirely sure why other reviewers are saying that it's noisy - it's really not and is, from my experience in IT (as an IT Professional) no noisier than any other mechanical hard drive. I've also experienced none of the 'chirping' noises that have been reported - the only issue I'm, having is that the disk keeps randomly waking up from hibernation - but this is down to an issue with the DiskStation rather than the drive itself. All in all, I'm impresses with the performance of this hard disk and would definitely recommend it if you're looking for a drive for a NAS.
