After use the little bits of steel stuck on it show that it is actually doing something but I do wonder if this also means that it is wearing the knives down quicker. We use it on top of a large butchers block next to where the knives are stored and it does come unstuck after a while but I have never found any of these suckers which will hold for more than few minutes on anything other than glass so this was not unexpected and is not a deal breaker. I also found one comment that pushing down the locking bar without injuring the thumb on the cutter was hard. I have found it impossible to simulate this and it seems to me to be perfectly safe.
