It works fine so far. I guess usb hubs always get a bit hot but cant compare with others. **Q: Does this adaptor need an external power supply for the Ethernet port to work?** A: NO, plug and play, but the first need to manually set the network **Q: does it work for apple MacBook Pro 2017?** A: It works with my 13inch Mac Book Pro with TouchBar. However, it can be a bit temperamental when plugging it in and starting up the computer if using the MacBook in clamshell mode. Sometimes it will work straight the way and some times you have to turn on the computer and then plug it in and other times you have to unplug it and plug it back in after the computer has booted. This is particularly noticeable when you use an external monitor with it. However, one it has been perswaded to work if it plays up then it is all good. **Q: is this compatible with a 2016 MacBook 13in Touch bar?** A: I have problems with MB 15in touch bar, so with 13in I think it will be the same...no 60hz on 4K. charging, usbs, sd is ok. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐ 3.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect, 7/8 *by S*** on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 April 2017* For the money, I'd expect it to come in a box (not a plastic pouch). It works fine. Sometimes needs unplugging and replugging when I restart my MacBook, but that could well be a macOS issue.My issue with this product and a lot of the other products in its class is why the cable from the device to the computer is so short. Particularly this one which I am using as an ethernet / HDMI adapter. Both of these things are permanent connections so there is no need to see the device on my otherwise clutter free desk. I've had to buy a separate extension in order to hide the device and all the cables coming from it. Would be much better if the cable was longer. Or better yet, make it a port instead of a cable, include a cable with the product and allow the user to choose.One small improvement would be for the ethernet cable to be on the same side as the HDMI. This would mean all the cables going to the fixed peripherals like displays and the network can be routed straight backwards and under the desk, meanwhile all the removable peripherals like chargers and portable hard drives are facing the user.Otherwise a functioning, well designed product.
