A new Cat Clarke novel is always something to celebrate and Girlhood could be her best yet, Juno DawsonAn emotionally charged, edge-of-your-seat thriller. Tension builds to a jaw-dropping crescendo as truths are revealed, loyalties are tested, and a whole lot of understanding is needed. Gripping and gratifyingly multi-layered, fans of thrillers with emotional depth will find much to love here, LoveReading4KidsWell-written and insightful ... the story moves at a roaring pace until it reaches a thrilling and ultimately uplifting conclusion ... an easy book to get lost in, The BookbagIncredible - pure and simple, Writing from the Tub on Cat ClarkeUndoubtedly one of the most exciting and talented YA writers in Britain, Library Mice on Cat ClarkeI wholly, unabashedly and completely recommend this book, Inis Magazine on Cat ClarkeClarke...succeeds brilliantly, thanks to the reality of the characters and the depth of the emotion, The Scotsman on Cat ClarkeClarke excels at genuine page-turners and I read this in one greedy sitting, The Bookseller on Cat ClarkeThere was something eery and creepy to the story that kept me on tender hooks from the very beginning. I read this book in a couple of sittings and I didn't want it to end! Cat's writing style is effortless and so easy to read that I felt that I was in a castle in Scotland myself at times. Girlhood comes out this week (May 4th) and if you haven't preordered it yet I would highly recommend it!, The YA NightstandI did really like the thrilling atmosphere of it and I found that the storyline wasn't predictable. I was guessing what was going to happen or what the secrets were, to find out that I couldn't have been more wrong., The Bibliophile Girl

Cat Clarke is the bestselling, award-winning author of seven YA novels. She was born in Zambia and brought up in Edinburgh and Yorkshire, which has given her an accent that tends to confuse people. She lives in Edinburgh with her partner, two ninja cats and two decidedly non-ninja cocker spaniels.

    Five stars

I enjoyed this book right from the start. Cat Clarke built the suspense throughout the whole book, which made me constantly want to know what happened next.Harper goes to boarding school in hope of a fresh start after the death of her sister, Jenna. When Kirsty joins the school a new friendship starts to form between the girls.I was constantly suspicious of Kirsty and did guess a few things but there were still a few surprises for me.Harper is a troubled teen trying to deal with her grief and guilt over her sisters death, this made me feel for Harper and I warmed to her character very quickly. This is the last book by Cat Clarke that I had left to read until she writes another. I am sad to have finished it. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of Cat's books.

and they do have a great impact in later life

I am always a fan of a YA book that doesn't have a romance as friendships (particularly female friendships) are possibly the most important relationships in our teenage years, far more than romances, and they do have a great impact in later life. This 'throwback' to boarding school stories intensifies the relationships and offers a fantastic look at how consuming friendships can be. Also brilliant to have LGBT representation without it being a massive overriding theme.

I LOVE THIS BOOK! I probably read this book faster than any others! It’s really gripping and very well written-it was the first Cat Clarke book i’ve read and now i’ve read them all!
