Not necessary. I have used a large decor bulb, which looks great. **Q: Is this cream? It looks white even though says cream** A: Yes it is cream or you could call it soft white. **Q: Anyone used this with a Hue colour bulb? Does the white/cream let through other colours appropriately?** A: I didn't. Just used with regular LED lightbulb. BUT I will say that it probably will look great with a hue color bulb because the material is pretty thin and is off white/creme color. I really like this lampshade. I feel like you can't go wrong if you get it.
