It came in extremely handy after I had my first knee surgery also. Just a few weeks I ago visited my mom and dad, and found out my father hurt his back and was in some severe pain. So my girlfriend and I drove home after dinner with my parents, grabbed the cool pack out of our freezer and gave it to my dad. The size of the pack worked perfect for his back, and he improved much faster than he thought he would. Of course I told them to keep it, and I had another one. Of course I didnt have 2 of these so I immediately ordered one from desertcart that same night. It showed up 1 day before I was scheduled for another knee surgery. Granted it is the "oversize" model but when its in your freezer, and laid out straight (do not make sharp bends in it) it really makes a small footprint. As for a cover, I use a pillow case (the size is perfect) and so do the therapists...........In a pinch I can use a clean dish towel. Remember to check with your doctor/therapist for proper use, most suggest 20-30 minutes at a time in order to not damage any nerves. Another use I have found for it is to chill guacamole! No joke, we have an avocado farm near us and we get perfect cados! But no matter where u get em they are not cold, and I dont like warm guacamole. I heard that refrigerating may increase the browning of them though. So, I take a large plastic bowl and put it in the freezer along with my cold pack and turn up the freezer for 10 minutes....While this is going on I cut and skin the cados. When that is done I take out my cold pack, set it flat on the counter (sometimes prop 1 side up against the bowl too) and make my guacamole.....The good stuff comes out perfect! Green, tasty, cold, and no browning! Yes I add a bit of lemon to keep it from browning longer too, but with the cold pack and the cold bowl I dont have to cover and refrigerate the guac for a little while if I want seconds for my taquitos and such. Give it a try! This way even when u are not injured, you can make your cold pack pay for itself! I would highly recommend this product! Learned this in PT. **Q: whats the difference between Black or blue?** A: The blue is definitely less durable. Had for less than a month and leaks brown goo all over. My PT uses the black ones as they had the same issue with the blue leaking. Wish I knew before I wasted my money on the blue one. Very disappointed. **Q: How do I access the warranty? I have had mine for 4 months and use it maybe once a week and it has began to leak its gel/fluid. Please replace.** A: I've had two of these that eventually formed seam leaks. I've found one way to seal the leaks. After cleaning all the material that leaked, squish the filler away from the seam so the leak area can be pressed without leaking more. Lay a continuous bead of superglue on the cover, 1/4" to 1/2" beyond the leak. Then cut a patch a little bigger than the superglue bead from a thinner rubber glove. The material and craftsmanship are of good quality. The coating seems durable and like it would not puncture, tear or break easily. The seams look to be well constructed also. This is almost the perfect size to cover my entire back. This is the same brand they use where I went for Physical Therapy. And there these get quite a work out so I figured for home use they would stand up pretty well. It doesn’t quite cover my entire back and I’m not that tall, only 5’5”. So if you need to cover your entire back, you need to purchase a second cold pack. I purchased another smaller ColPac and the two of them together work out perfectly fine. Of course I store it in the freezer and when I use it I lie on top of it for anywhere from 20-45 minutes. The cold lasts the entire time. It seems to refreeze rather quickly when I checked it, but I only actually use it once a day. I would highly recommend this product for someone who needs a professional quality cold pack. I’ll update this review if I have any problems with it. It does not come with any warranty which is disappointing. You’d think they would at least warranty their product for 90 days minimum. But as I said, I’ve been using it every day for about one month and it shows no sign of poor quality. If a seam did break or a puncture occurred I would simply use some duct tape to repair and I’m sure it would be fine. I don’t know what type of gel is in it, but it’s very flexible to conform to your body and the filling is non-toxic. This was the perfect purchase for me to continue my cold therapy at home once PT was over.
