**Q: How far does the piece stick out from the wall? Trying to figure out how much space it would take up in the foyer.**
A: The shelf sticks out from the wall 12".

**Q: Can anyone tell me how much space is between hooks? How far apart are they?**
A: Distance between the large hooks is 11 1/2 inches. The smaller hooks are centered in between, 5 3/4 inches from the large ones. we find pleny to space for adult winter coats on all the hooks.

**Q: Can you leave the back piece off so you see all wall instead of partial?**
A: I wouldn't recommend it.  There are actually two pieces that connect together with a lip.  Those pieces get bolted into the wall to provide structural support.  It's an extremely heavy shelf and needs the back piece to keep it from falling off the wall and taking part of your wall with it.  If you are putting baskets in the cubbies you don't notice it that much.
