It should work to warm it to the necessary temperature while avoiding damage. They warned, however, that while in theory this method should achieve the desired effect, our iOpeners have not actually been tested in boiling water, and of course it is generally better to avoid using water around electronics. If you do heat the iOpener with warm water, please be extra cautious to make sure you don't end up damaging the device in the process. We'd like to reemphasize that we only recommend heating the iOpener using a microwave--as per the instructions--as that is what their testing is conducted with and we have no way of knowing or guaranteeing how other methods will work. If you do still want to try alternative heating methods, you should use whatever method you see fit. These newer phones are more difficult because you now have to heat the adhesive gently and then pry the back of the phone off.The gel pad makes heating the adhesive very simple for its price range. Using a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the adhesive takes forever, and it can feel defeating because it takes a lot longer and its harder to gauge the progress.The other tools are fairly good products too. It's a lot better than the cheap tools that you find on Amazon. Last, I like the tray that it comes with because it can help you to sort parts while you are disassembling.The only thing that I wish it had is a metal opening tool to start the prying process. Because the metal opening tools are much thinner, they are easier to start the process.
