The bacteria causing the UTI has pili (long 'arms') which bind mannose sugar in your urinary tract cells, and then use that to cling on & get into the cells. If you take this you will have lots of mannose in your urine instead, so the bacteria will stick to this instead of your cells and get flushed out. Definitely not just a vague supplement or placebo! Edit- I have since found a study which has a source for this mechanism, and reports that it has similar effectiveness of UTI prevention as antibiotics, and very minimal side effects (although sample sizes are fairly small) if anyone is interested: Lenger SM, Bradley MS, Thomas DA, Bertolet MH, Lowder JL, Sutcliffe S. PMID: 32497610; PMCID: PMC7395894. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Lifesaver for 80% of UTIs (E-Coli) *by F***S on 16 February 2023* As a sufferer of horrendous bladder infections for 6+ years now I have been saved on many occasions by D’Mannose and feel I am a self-proclaimed expert on natural treatments for UTIs! 80% +/- of bladder infections are caused by E-Coli. Please note that D’Mannose has only been proven to work against E-Coli urinary tract infections. If you are finding your symptoms do not alleviate with D’Mannose then you may have another bacterial strain (klebsiella, proteus etc for example) that needs different treatment. You may also find you are not taking enough D’Mannose. I take D’Mannose as a prophylactic around “trigger” points I know where I could potentially get a UTI and if I immediately feel symptoms this cures it (IF I have developed an E-Coli UTI. I wouldn’t trust Urine sticks or NHS results as most of the time I received “inconclusive results” I literally go by reduction of symptoms as indication as to whether or not I am tackling an E-Coli UTI) I take: 3 x 1000mg D’Mannose tablets preventively before known triggers. Wait an hour. Another 3 x 1000mg. i always ensure to have some in my system before bedtime so that the D’Mannose lingers in the bladder longer to rid the E-Coli from the bladder walls. If I am in a full blown flare I will take 3 x 1000mg every 2/3 hours or so until symptoms dissipate… I have never had any ill side effects but I would advise to trust your body and speak to a medical professional if you are concerned.
