Having proper biological filtration will always trump temporary polishers such as carbon and such. Ammonia and Nitrites are deadly and this stuff in your filter will really help. I use a Fluval 101 external filter and use half of the box one week , then use the other half the next week. While the second week goes on wash your wet Zeolite and the leave it in brine (salty water ) and then dry it out for the third week and so on. However, there was a lot of dust and some plant matter mixed in with the zeolite chips.
