Insulation easily gets damaged

Since color of wire is used to communicate purpose when building electronic projects, it's important to have a variety on hand rather than trying to just use a single spool of neutral-colored wire. That's where an assortment like this set comes in - by allowing you to select between the four primary colors, black and white, you can differentiate multiple signals more easily.This box is exactly the same concept as other multi-dispenser boxes I've used in the past: it's six spools that sit inside the box, and six small holes that you can thread the wire through so you can pull to dispense as needed. This particular kit also includes a few extra pack-in items (zip ties and a mini cable stripper/punchdown tool); while I don't find them particularly necessary, it never hurts to get more free enclosures with a product like this.As with most wire spool sets like this, I wish you got more red and black wire than the other colors, because that's usually what runs out first: I have several used boxes with plenty of yellow and blue cable on them but with the other colors depleted. But that's a minor complaint, and I've never actually seen anyone offer an assortment with that feature.There's nothing particularly unique about this assortment other than the small enclosed bonus items, but the wire also is perfectly suitable for most projects and is packaged nicely. It's an excellent choice if you're just looking for some basic hookup wire to keep on hand!

The wire works, strips easily enough, and is tinned copper core. However, the insulation - while it is advertised as PVC - is unlike anything I've ever used; It's soft, the wire bends very easily. In my photos you'll see a green wire straightened; This wire was straightened with a single run of my thumb and pointer finger tips. Typical PVC insulated wire will hold form relatively well. You'd have trouble poking this wire through a vehicle - it's certainly not the hard, firm, PVC insulation you'd expect. That's the reason for the 3-star review; It feels like silicon, or perhaps even more flimsy than silicon - and it's a decent thickness (the insulator, so it's just not right).While I'm disappointed on that end - the wire does work, I'll just have to save it for something other than its intended use case (automotive harness). To be fair, I was buying this to complete a job I started with another brand that sold out - or I'd probably go ahead and make the harness if it was to be fully crafted with this wire.The heat shrink, zip ties, and stripper were inside of the box distributed throughout.

Not much to say about hookup wire kits like this other than it pretty much delivers what it promises. 6 Spools of 22ga pre-tinned stranded wire in a box with holes for dispencing the wire. Insulation strips off smoothly, wire takes to solder well, and insulation seems heat resistant enough it wasn't shrinking away from a hot iron when I applied solder or when I used a hot air reflow tool on it (which I usually use for heat shrinking solder joints)Speaking of heat shrink, the box includes a few extra bonuses, at least if you call them that. There are maybe a dozen 4" zip ties and a few inches of heat shrink in various colors sort of thrown into the box as well as a mini wire stripper. They're relevant bonuses for people working with thin hookup wire but honestly do not have a lot of value in my book. Zip ties and heat shink are pretty cheap and easy to buy in bulk and the mini stripper is really designed for thicker gauge wires. I was sort of able to strip some of the 22ga wire but its really not that practical.The only downside is some of the wire had poorly printed labeling on the insulation, 4 out of 6 roles the text was well printed and readable, but two spools had some poorly printed unreadable text. It's not a big deal for most of my projects, but I've been on projects where the readable print on the insulation was important to have when wires needed to be replaced, otherwise, this wire is pretty comparably priced and worth it for anyone looking to add some 22ga stranded wire to your electronic part supplies
