The bulbs were barely warm to the touch of the tip of my index finger. I would feel safe putting them in contact if fabric. I would still recommend that you do a test: put the lights on the fabric, hang the fabric on a hanger for 15 minutes watching them closely and feeling them for warmth... just to be on the safer side. ba careful not to damage the insulation on the wire. That would be a different matter. **Q: I would like to use these lights to decorate my graduation cap. Do they get hot?
