The button has to be pressed with a good amount of pressure. I don't worry about mine sparking in my backpack. **Q: Does it come with a lanyard?** A: The one I purchased did not come with a lanyard. Perhaps they do now. **Q: Is it be able to ignite char cloth or lint to start a fire?** A: If you got one that worked. I would say probably not. It is designed to ignite gas fumes requiring much less spark than ordinary flammable products. Mine never worked even on gas fumes. Wouldn't light my MSR stove. Unfortunate because MSR makes some really good products however, this is not one of them. **Q: Can you use it to ignite alcohol stoves like the Trangia?** A: Yes, but there's a trick. I use it to ignite my home-made soda can alcohol stove; works perfectly. The trick is this: the spark ignites FUMES, not LIQUIDS. So, if you have an alcohol stove where the liquid alcohol is exposed/visible, swirl the stove around so you get a thin layer of alcohol coating the walls. This provides a much larger surface area from which the alcohol can evaporate. Now you have a lot of fumes.
